Halsey remembered how, three years ago, Warren had liked her a lot. In fact, everyone around Dwight liked her.

But now, three years later, Warren was full of hostility toward her. And there was someone new–Chelsea, someone Halsey had never met before.

Chelsea seemed to care for Shaun deeply. It was clear she looked after his daily life.

Halsey curled her fingers nervously, unsure of what to say.

Warren glanced at Shaun. “Let’s go. Didn’t we agree to have fondue together tonight? Chelsea’s already prepared all the ingredients. We’re starving. We were just waiting for you to join us.”

Chelsea looked over at Halsey. “Ms. Halsey, do you want to join us?”

Before Halsey could answer, Warren cut in, “She probably doesn’t have time. Let’s go, Shaun.

Warren pulled Shaun away.

Shaun looked at Halsey. “I’ll see you home first.”

Halsey knew Warren didn’t want her there. Since they were hungry and waiting for Shaun, she quickly waved her hand. “It’s okay, I have a driver. You guys go ahead.”

Warren tugged Shaun. “Let’s go. Ms. Halsey doesn’t need you to take care of her.”

Shaun nodded and turned to Halsey. “Alright. I’ll see you soon.”

Halsey forced a small smile. “Okay.”

Shaun, Warren, and Chelsea got into a luxury car and drove off.

Halsey stood there alone, watching the sleek car disappear into the distance.

She realized that over these past three years, an enormous gap had grown between them.

She had no idea what had happened to Dwight during that time, or what had happened to his face. She didn’t know what had happened between him and the woman he married three years ago nor who Chelsea was.

She felt like she was miles away from him.

Halsey had imagined what their reunion might be like countless times. Maybe he would explain everything, or want to reconcile –but he hadn’t said a word.

Just then, a familiar voice came from behind her. “Shaun’s already gone, Why are you still staring?”

Halsey turned around to see Gilbert.

He just wouldn’t leave her alone.

Halsey didn’t want to engage him. “Mr. Payne has already agreed not to end the partnership with Lincoln Enterprise. Your schemes won’t work.”

Gilbert sneered. “You think you’ve got Shaun wrapped around your finger? Let me tell you–Chelsea, the woman earlier, is his girlfriend.”

He had a girlfriend?

Gilbert stepped closer. “I heard she’s been with Shaun for three years. They’re always together, and their relationship is rock solid. You should just give up on him.”

Halsey’s heart sank into an endless pit.
