Chapter 856

The woman huffed, clearly annoyed, and stomped away in her high heels.

Halsey let out a snort.

Shaun looked at her and gave a low chuckle, his lips curling into a sinirk.

The sound of his laughter drew Halsey’s attention. Her bright, almondshaped eyes landed on his face, not looking too pleased. What’s so funny?

Shaun looked back at her. I thought you said you weren’t coming down.

Halsey lifted her chin slightly. If I hadn’t come down, would you have gone off with that woman instead?

Shaun raised an eyebrow. I didn’t say that.

Halsey shot him a glare. Jerk.

She muttered the insult and turned to leave.

But Shaun opened the car door, grabbed her slender wrist, and pulled her hard. Halsey stumbled and landed right on his lap.

The car was spacious, but with both of them squeezed into the driver’s seat, it felt a little tight. The sudden closeness made her cheeks turn red.

She glared at him again. Let go of me!

Shaun shut the door and held her on his lap. Are you angry? I didn’t do anything or say anything, but you called me a jerk, and now you wanna leave?

Halsey huffed. Sure, you didn’t do anything yet. But if I hadn’t come down, you’d have gone to the bar with that woman and maybe even booked a hotel room with her after! Are you feeling that lonely tonight?

Shaun reached out and gently pinched her chin. I don’t agree. I didn’t even speak to that woman. But there’s one thing you’re right aboutI am lonely. Want to keep me company?

He actually admitted it.

Halsey shot back, You’re shameless!

Shaun laughed. If being shameless gets me you, then sure. I’m shameless.

Then he leaned in and kissed her.

Halsey pressed her small hands against his broad shoulders. What are you doing? Let me go!

When she refused to let him kiss her lips, Shaun kissed her cheeks, then her hair. His voice turned husky. Why do you smell so damn good?

How could she not?

She had just soaked in a rose petal bath and rubbed on essential oils from head to toe. At twentysomething, she was in her primea pampered, delicate beauty, soft and fragrant like a freshly bloomed rose.

Halsey pushed against him. Stop!

Shaun looked at her. You really want me to?

His gaze was intensehot like molten lava, burning through her defenses.

Halsey opened her mouth to say no, but the words caught in her throat. I-

Before she could finish, Shaun kissed her again.
