The Heartbroken Luna's Choice Banish Love novel Chapter 193

Chapter 193

Third Person’s POV

After Paisley left, Cassian stood in the cavernous, tomblike living room for a long time, his eyes closed in exhaustion.

He remembered how much she used to ache for a child.

Back when they first mated, she’d even played little, harmless games to try and get pregnant.

But he’d thought she was too young, too impulsive, and he’d made her take a pill once.

Since then, because he didn’t want to keep messing with her hormones, he’d always been the one to handle protection.

But yesterday morning, in that total blackout of reason, he’d used none.

She was punishing him. This was her silent protest: she refused to carry the seed of an Alpha who had treated her like an enemy.

It took him a long while to gather the strength to push open the heavy bedroom door.

The room had been scrubbed clean and was unnervingly quiet.

Trista lay in the center of the bed, as still as a statue carved from ice.

Cassian walked to the bedside. She was facing away from the door, curled so tightly into the duvet that her silhouette looked fragile, almost disappearing.

He unbuttoned his suit jacket and sat on the edge of the mattress, still carrying the chill of the morning air.

One lying down, one sitting up. They were back to back.

The silence in that massive room was too heavy.

Finally, Cassian broke the deadlock.

He stared straight ahead, his voice a low rasp. Paisley made you some oatmeal. Get up and eat something.

Trista’s eyes flickered behind her closed lids, her lashes trembling, but she stubbornly refused to open them.

Cassian stood, walked to the other side of the bed, and knelt. With agonizingly slow, gentle

movements, he turned her to face him.

As she shifted, her pajama strap slipped down her shoulder. The sight of it hit him like a physical blowthe pale skin was a map of dense, angry bruises and finger marks in varying shades of purple and red.

Cassian froze.

Yesterday morning, faced with her total, coldblooded indifference, he’d lost his mind.

He never imagined that two people who had grown up together, who were mates, could end up in a cycle of such raw, visceral destruction.

The corners of his eyes flushed a dark, bruised red. He looked away, unable to keep staring at the evidence of what he’d done.

He stayed there on one knee for a long time, forcing the storm in his chest to settle.

He carefully reached out, slid her strap back into place, and lifted her up. He draped his own suit jacket over her shoulders and issued a low command. Trista, I know you’re awake. Open your eyes.

From this second on, he was done letting her drift.

Trista had zero strength left. She slumped against him, her head lolling against his chest. She forced her eyes open, gave him one single look of pure, icy hatred, and closed them again.

Cassian didn’t say another word. He scooped her up in a bridal carry and walked her to the dining room.

He set her down in a chair, and she leaned against the backrest, her eyes opening once more to find a full breakfast spread before her.

She didn’t have the will to even part her lips.

Cassian tested the temperature of the oatmeal and brought a spoonful to her mouth.

She didn’t open up. He set the spoon down and pushed the bowl toward her.

His voice was devoid of emotion. Eat. Then get some rest. We’re attending the Shadowfang full moon gala tomorrow night. You’re coming with me.

Trista’s lips twitched into a numb, hollow smirk.

So that’s it. He was only desperate to get food into her so she’d be strong enough to play the part of the perfect Luna by his side tomorrow night.

She cut a glance at him, still refusing to speak.

Cassian reached out and calmly picked up his communication stone.

Trista, starving yourself to get to me? It’s not going to work,he said, his voice deep and final If you won’t cat, I’ll call your parents. I’ll have them come over and talk you into it.

The mention of her parents finally got a reaction.

Her eyes instantly welled with red, her lips trembling as a broken whisper escaped her throat. FineDon’t bother them. I’ll eat.

She reached for the bowl, but her hands were shaking so violently she couldn’t even steady it.

Cassian watched her struggle. He opened his mouth to say something, but felt like an iron band had been tightened around his chest.

It was a suffocating, dull pain. He had been too rough. He knew it.

Instinctively, he reached out and covered her trembling hands.

When he spoke again, his voice was noticeably softer. I’ll feed you.
