Chapter 222
Third Person’s POV
Before Trista could even open her mouth, the doorbell rang again.
Isaiah’s ears twitched. He looked around, totally baffled. “Who now? What is this, a pack summit?”
Fred, clearly enjoying the chaos, cleared his throat and leaned back. “Paisley, go get the door.”
Paisley panted her way over to the foyer. As the door swung open, there stood a polished–up Samantha, holding Algernon’s hand.
The kid had eyes like a hawk–the second he spotted Cassian, he broke free and lunged across the room. “Daddy!” he squealed, his voice high and clear..
Cassian looked down at the toddler death–gripping his leg, and his face went so dark it looked like it was about to bruise.
He hadn’t expected this in his wildest dreams. He couldn’t believe Trista had the balls to invite Samantha and the brat directly into their private apartment.
Isaiah sucked in a sharp breath, looking like a pup who’d just had his tail stepped on. He scrambled behind Trista and pointed at the kid. “Trista, is that… the kid? The one your mate had with that rogue? I mean, his face is just so…‘
Trista shot Isaiah a warning glare over her shoulder. “Watch it, Isaiah. Cassian’s son is good- looking. Don’t be a dick.”
Fred couldn’t hold it in anymore. He leaned against the sofa, his chest heaving with muffled laughter.
Samantha gritted her teeth. She wanted to rip Isaiah’s throat out, but she had to keep up
appearances.
She carefully checked Cassian’s expression, then edged toward him with a submissive, sugary tone. “Cassian, Luna Trista sent me an invite, so I brought Algernon over. We… we aren’t ruining your night, are we?”
Cassian stayed rigid, prying the kid off his leg. A flicker of lethal Alpha aggression flashed in his eyes as he stared at Samantha.
He suddenly grabbed Trista’s wrist and hauled her into a corner, his voice a low, vibrating roar. “Trista, what the hell are you playing at?”

“So,” he gritted out, “this is it? This is the big surprise you’ve been sitting on for three day
Trista nodded earnestly. “Yeah. I mean, every time you go see them, you act like a common thief, terrified Howard is gonna catch you. Now that I’ve claimed the boy as my godson, your own flesh and blood can call you ‘Daddy‘ out in the open. He doesn’t have to whisper anymore. Isn’t that great?”
Cassian looked at her like she’d grown a second head. He was beyond livid.
“Trista, are you insane? Do you have any idea what this means?”
Trista reached out to pat his arm, her tone incredibly patient. “Cassian, take a breath. The kid’s been calling you ‘Dad‘ for a while now anyway. If anyone in the pack starts asking questions, just tell them it was my idea. Pin the whole thing on me. I’m your Luna; I’ll take the hit. Your reputation will stay sparkling clean.”
The vein in Cassian’s temple was throbbing so hard it looked like it might burst. “Trista!” he hissed, losing his grip on his temper. “I never intended to give this kid a title, and I sure as hell never planned on taking this embarrassing situation public!”
Trista sighed, looking disappointed in his lack of vision.
She stood on her tiptoes and leaned into his ear, her breath warm against his skin. “You really don’t need to be this scared,” she whispered. “I maxed out your card for the 18th floor so they could live right above us. It makes it easier for you to ‘take care‘ of them whenever you want. Even if you spend every night up there, the neighbors won’t suspect a thing.”
Cassian’s chest heaved. He felt like he was about to explode. He shoved Ti wild.

Trista took a quick glance at the room full of spectators, then stepped right back into his space. “Look,” she promised quietly. “Whatever happens, I’ve got your back. Go get your happily ever after. I’ll be the one everyone hates. I don’t care.”
Cassian practically spat the words through his teeth. “Trista, you really are the most ‘generous‘ mate I’ve ever met.”
A tiny smirk played on Trista’s lips. It wasn’t that she was big–hearted; it was just that the mating bond was dead in her heart. She literally didn’t care who he slept with anymore.
Cassian’s face was stone–cold as he started radiating a “get out” Alpha aura, clearly ready to clear

They stood in a deadlock, staring each other down. Trista’s gaze was as firm as a frozen la and Cassian was so angry his wolf was clawing to get out.
Isaiah, never one to miss a chance to stir the pot, leaned in with a smirk. “Trista, are you guys sure you’re even mated? Because I am catching zero mating bond from over here.”
Trista and Cassian looked at each other. Their link was a graveyard–complete silence. Both of them went quiet.
Fred caught Isaiah’s eye and jerked his chin toward Samantha and the kid. “Cassian and those two definitely look like a happy little family of three.”
