Third Person’s POV

Samantha wasn’t about to budge. She’d worked too hard to get settled in LA and had finally managed to wiggle her way into Madison’s high–society inner circle.
More importantly, the fact that Cassian was willing to go toe–to–toe with the Ironthorn members just to protect Algernon proved she still had a hold on him.
As long as she could kick Trista out of the pack, the Luna seat was hers. There was no way she was walking away from a goldmine for a one–time payout.
Seeing the defiance in her eyes, Cassian’s face went stone–cold.
He let his Alpha aura flare, his voice dripping with ice–cold warning. “Samantha, the amount on this card is enough to change your life forever. It’s more than you’d ever make in a hundred lifetimes. If you don’t take it now, don’t expect a third chance.”
Samantha stood her ground, her palms slick with cold sweat.
Sure, the money was a lot, but compared to the combined assets of Cassian and the Ironthorn Pack? It was pocket change.
If she could force a divorce and secure the Luna title, she’d own the bank, not just a card.
She wasn’t trading her long game for a few quick bucks.
“Cassian, look,” she said, her voice steady. “The second your mother spoke to me, I moved out of that house you bought. I’ve done everything I can to stay out of your hair, and you know it.”
She took a breath and doubled down on the lie. “That apartment upstairs? Trista forced it on Algernon. I tried to say no, but she used her rank to threaten me. What was I supposed to do? I’m just a rogue with zero backup.”
When Cassian stayed silent, she softened her tone, playing the “practical” card. “Look, everyone in the pack already thinks Algernon is yours. If Trista actually becomes his godmother, it gives us a respectable cover story. It makes everything look official and clean.”
She didn’t give him a chance to push back.
“If it really bothers you that much, I’ll give the keys back tomorrow. I’ll tell her I’m only staying there if I pay rent.”
Her
eyes turned red, the perfect picture of wounded pride. “Cassian, I might be poor, but I have dignity. If I was just after your life, I wouldn’t have stayed overseas for six years before coming

Seeing her act so “virtuous” finally made the lethal edge in Cassian’s eyes soften.

Samantha saw her opening and went for the kill. “I’m just now realizing what a great person Trista is. I actually value our friendship. Your grandfather ruined my life once already, and you’ve turned the whole pack upside down just to give Algernon a name–I’d say we’re even now. From now on, if I’m in trouble, I’ll go to Trista. I won’t bother you again. You should go.”
It was a masterclass in reverse psychology. By pinning everything on Trista, she kept her “innocent” image intact while lowering Cassian’s guard.
Cassian was left with nothing to say. He finally backed off.
“Algernon’s out. You should get some sleep too,” he muttered before heading home.
On the drive back, Cassian’s mind was a mess.
In his memory, Samantha was always weak and insecure–too timid to pull off a power move like this.
But Trista? She’d been a wild card since they were kids. She was clever, unpredictable, and stubborn. If anyone was capable of orchestrating a mess like this to get what she wanted, it was
her.
Late that night, Trista was huddled under the duvet, eyes glued to the secret files she’d ripped from Cassian’s computer.
Hearing heavy footsteps approaching, she killed her screen and pulled the “fake sleep” routine, steadying her breath.
Cassian stepped into the bedroom, his gaze lingering on her.
He stood by the bed for a long time, just watching the she–wolf he was mated with.
Trista kept her eyes shut until the sound of the shower started, and only then did she let them open. Her eyes were empty–zero love left.
Even though the papers was shredded and the blackmail was gone, she wasn’t relaxing.
Cassian wasn’t the type to just surrender, and his mental state was clearly fraying.
The man who used to be ruthlessly logical was becoming erratic and prone to snapping. Pissing off an Alpha on the edge of a breakdown was a suicide mission. She had to play this perfectly.
The next morning, Trista was up and ready on time. As she was heading out, Cassian intercepted her with a gift box. She looked down, acting like she hadn’t noticed him until he

“For your promotion,” he said, holding it out. Trista set her bag down and gave him a polite, scripted smile. “Thanks. I appreciate it.”
