Third Person’s POV
Trista was halfway out the door for her shift at the clinic when Cassian blocked her path. He grabbed her wrist and pulled her firmly against him.
His dark brown eyes locked onto hers. “It really has been too long since we just had a meal, just the two of us. I’ll grab a table downtown tonight. Can I pick you up after work?”
Trista felt like Cassian’s brain had been short–circuiting lately. She frowned and gave him a blunt “no.”
“Don’t go through the trouble,” she said. “Just have Paisley come over to the Blue Bay apartment and prep something. I’ll try to get home early.”
The minute she agreed, the tense Alpha energy radiating off Cassian finally softened.
His gaze drifted from her eyes down to her lips–a softness his instincts practically craved.
He tightened his grip on her waist and slowly leaned in.
Just as their noses were about to touch, Trista turned her head, giving him the cold shoulder.
Cassian froze. He let out a breath and slowly let go, looking completely dejected.
The door slammed shut, and Cassian stood in the foyer for a long time.
Ever since the day Trista took that Morning After pill, their intimacy had hit rock bottom.
She treated his pheromones like they were toxic; whether it was a casual touch or physical closeness, she shut him down every single time.
That evening, Cassian returned to the apartment to find a massive spread prepared by Paisley.
“You’re good to go, Paisley,” Cassian said, waving her off distractedly. “I’ll take it from here.”
He pulled a vintage red from the rack and poured it into the decanter.
When he turned back to the dining room, his eyes landed on a Matcha Truffle cake at the corner of the
table.
Cassian stared at the dessert, and his heart gave a painful squeeze. Ever since the day he’d hand–delivered a blueberry cake to Algernon, Trista had completely quit matcha–the one flavor she used to be obsessed with. Now, she wouldn’t even look at anything that shade of green.
A wave of delayed guilt hit him like a physical blow. He called out to Paisley before she reached the elevator. “Take that cake with you. Get it out of here.”
Paisley had barely left when Trista walked in.
Cassian’s “tender mate” expression crumbled the second he saw the two male wolves trailing behind her.
Trista sensed the shift in the room and shrugged it off. Ran into the guys in the garage. Figured I’d invite them up for a bite”
Fred and Isaiah didn’t wait for an invitation. They tossed their jackets aside and headed for the bathroom to

As Fred passed Cassian, he stopped and tilted his chin up. “Don’t look at me like that. Your Luna sent out the invites herself.”
Isaiah stuck his head out to twist the knife. “Seriously, Cassian, chill with the Alpha vibes. Trista said there’s plenty of food and told us to make ourselves at home.”
“In this territory, you will address her as Luna,” Cassian gritted out through his teeth.
Isaiah just shook his head with a smirk. “Nah. She likes it when I use her name.”
The romantic “one–on–one” Cassian had spent days planning was officially dead.
He spent the entire dinner sitting at the head of the table like a dormant volcano, not touching a single bite of food.
He finally managed to kick out the two “third wheels,” but just as Trista was heading to bed, her phone blew up with a call from Isaiah.
He was rambling about having nightmares and insisted Trista bring up some soothing incense.
Trista sighed and started rummaging through the cabinets.
Cassian stood in the doorway of the walk–in closet like a brick wall, refusing to let her change or leave.
“Cassian, stop looking like you’re about to maul someone,” she said. “To us healers, patients are basically like pups. You have to be patient with them.”
Cassian’s face went dark. He snatched the box of medicinal incense out of her hand, the wood creaking under his grip.
“Stay here. Don’t move,” he said coldly. “If he wants someone to ‘soothe‘ him, I’ll go up and do the
When Isaiah opened his door and saw Cassian, his pupils shrunk into tiny needles. “What are you doing here?”
Cassian didn’t say a word. He just radiated enough Alpha aura to freeze the air as he forced his way into the
apartment.
“Hey, hold on!” Isaiah tried to block him. “It’s late. Shouldn’t you be with Trista instead of crashing my place?”
Cassian gave him a lethal look. “Trista said you’re having some ‘feral anxiety‘ and can’t sleep. I’m here for some physical therapy.”
Isaiah jumped back three feet, totally on guard. “Back of! If you don’t keep your rank in check, you’ll crush my wolf, and I’ll make sure you pay for the medical bills”
Cassian didn’t waste his breath.
He walked straight into the bedroom, pulled out the herbal incense, and started placing the sticks around the bed like he was setting up a ritual altar. To top it off, he lit two pale candle.

The apartment went pitch black, save for the two candles flickering with an eerie green glow. The bedroom suddenly looked less like a place to sleep and more like sacrificial altar in the middle of the woods.
