The Heartbroken Luna's Choice Banish Love novel Chapter 304

Third Person's POV

Trista turned her back on him, her expression colder than the night air.

Cassian was highly educated; he knew exactly how poor the thermal conductivity of glass was.

No matter how hard he tried, he would never be able to warm that frozen pendant.

Late night, at a private booth at a members-only club, Cassian sat deep in the sofa, his pheromones heavy and dark.

Humphrey stood by, delivering the report. "Alpha Cassian, Madison transferred five hundred thousand to Samantha's account last night. She's currently staying with the kid in a temporary shelter downtown."

Cassian's long fingers tapped rhythmically against his glass. "Get an apartment ready for her on the edge of the territory. Bug the place. Cameras, microphones—everything."

Humphrey hesitated, offering a cautious warning. "If you get close to Samantha again to dig into Crispin's case, Luna Trista is going to take it the wrong way."

Cassian closed his eyes, looking exhausted. "He only shared half my blood, but he's my family. I can't just let him die in a foreign country without knowing why."

As for Trista... his reputation with her was already in the gutter. Explaining himself would probably just annoy her more.

Besides, Crispin's death was a jagged wound in his mother's heart.

If she found out the case was being reopened, it would only cause her more pain.

He decided to carry the weight alone.

As long as Trista didn't finalize the divorce or leave the territory, she could punish him however she wanted.

Trying to clear his head, Cassian shifted gears.

"Monitor the merger of those two tech groups tomorrow. Promote Abigail to Team Lead."

Humphrey looked skeptical. "Alpha Cassian, Abigail hasn't even been with the firm for a year. That R&D team will have over a hundred people after the merger. Can a young girl really handle that?"

Cassian pulled up a file and sent it to Humphrey. "The man in this photo is Abigail's biological father—the lead architect behind the Russian AI chip technology. His current contract expires in a week. Have HR draft the appointment letter tomorrow. In three days, send a deputy to accompany Abigail to Russia. I don't care what it costs; bring him to our side."

Samantha forced a smile, fighting to keep the terrified fur on the back of her neck from standing up. "Cassian hasn't officially ended his marriage yet. With an Alpha of his rank, it's no surprise Trista is clinging to the title and refusing to sign. Who would want to give up that throne?"

Madison released a wave of oppressive, foul-smelling scent. "You said this debt was for one night only. Because we're both strays, I'll give you a few more days. If that check doesn't clear, I'll rip your throat out myself."

After Madison left, Samantha received a jagged, telepathic message and hurried out.

Near a greasy-spoon diner on the south side—a place so filthy even stray dogs avoided it—Georgia, her brother George, and his wife Angela were waiting for her.

"Samantha, what the hell did you do? Why are debt collectors tracking our scent to our doorstep?" Georgia shrieked, her gray eyes wide with panic.

Angela grabbed Samantha's bag like a madwoman, baring her jagged, yellowed fangs in the middle of the street. "Samantha! We bankrupted ourselves helping you fake that kid's bloodline just so you could land that Alpha! You get yourself exiled for six years, and me and my husband are stuck raising your nameless brat! Now you're back in LA with a mountain of debt, and the Enforcers could wipe us out any second!"

George pointed a finger in her face, spitting as he yelled. "If you want to be some aristocrat's cheap side-piece, do it somewhere else! You might not care about your wolf honor, but my sons have to make a life on the edge of this pack. If you get us marked as permanent exiles, I'll kill you myself!"

Samantha felt her head spinning. The years of suppressed humiliation finally boiled over.

She shoved them back, letting out a scream like a cornered animal. "Are you all quite finished?"
