He handed the violin case to her on her eighteenth birthday. She whined playfully, leaning into him like she always did.

She looked up, her eyes shining like stars. From today on, I’ll play only for you.”

It wasn’t until much later that he realized-

To fight the insomnia and night terrors that plagued him even in his wolf form, she had quietly dropped her violin, which she’d studied for over a decade. She switched her major to Moon Goddess Healing.

She channeled her talent for pitch and rhythm into the healing room, specializing in therapies for sleep disorders and posttraumatic mental tears.

She had always locked that violin away, treating it like gold.

No one else was allowed to touch it. Even the Ironthorn housekeepers had to circle around it.

Now, she had simply burned it.

Cassian felt all the strength drain out of him.

He slowly knelt down by the scorched earth. His fingers trembled slightly, the faint veins on the back of his hand taut.

It was as if Trista’s fire hadn’t just consumed wood and old things.

The flames had burned straight from the garden into his chest, charring the heart marked by the mating bond, refusing to leave him even the ashes.

He compulsively sifted through the ruins.

A teddy bear with only one leg, a music box with just its base

And a pile of halfmelted, skeletal wedding photos.

Every single item connected to their relationship, from the beach photos before the mating to the shots taken at the Moon Goddess Altar, was destroyed.

It was her final, primitive declaration on the mating: Total reset. Starting over from zero.

Samantha sent Algernon back inside first, then cautiously approached him.

Cassian, she whispered. Luna Trista completely destroyed everything between you two. She’s made up her mind to leave.

She stood close, her omega scent pulled in, making her seem soft and vulnerable. It’s pointless to keep fighting this alone. Just agree to terminate the matingwith her.

Cassian slowly staggered to his feet. His fingers clenched at his side, fighting the agitation of his wolf.

He closed his eyes, sinking into his mental domain to locate his Ironthorn driver’s frequency.

A low, undeniable Alpha aura command pressed through the Mindlink, Drive to the Alpha villa immediately. Pick them up.

He cut the link cleanly.

He opened his eyes and looked at Samantha, his tone cold and detached. Go pack up. pack car is coming now. It will take you and Algernon back.

The

Samantha couldn’t believe it. Trista had burned the past to ashes. The termination agreement was on the table. Yet, he still refused to cut ties with that shewolf.

She tested him. Cassian, it’s late. Algernon is exhausted. Can we stay until tomorrow?

Cassian walked straight into the living room. There was no room for discussion. This is the Alpha villa belonging to me and my mate. It’s not appropriate for you and your son to stay here.

Samantha followed him, pushing back desperately. Cassian, Luna Trista has gone this far just to end things. Are you really still going to cling to the mating?

Cassian stopped and turned.

His face was grim. His gaze locked onto Samantha’s expression. You know exactly why she misunderstood. So why did you agree to move in?

In that instant, his Alpha aura was suppressed, yet it felt like a knife hanging over her head.

Samantha retreated half a step in feigned distress, gripping her robe. Cassian, are you blaming

me?

Cassian looked away wearily, as if he couldn’t bear the sight of her. Samantha, when you came back to Los Angeles with the child, I admit I was overwhelmed by reunion guilt.
