Chapter 82

Cassian’s POV

Shut up.”

I snapped the command low. My gland tightened, pheromones briefly surging along my neck, then violently suppressed. The cold Alpha aura filled the space between us.

The air went dead silent.

I pulled out a tissue, looking down, and began vigorously wiping the wedding band.

Trista was meticulous about cleanliness; she never let anyone touch her belongings casually.

If she saw this, she would be disgusted.

My wolf would be too.

I scrubbed the ring hard, trying to strip away every trace of the foreign scent.

My actions were clearly a provocation to Samantha.

She lost control, grabbing my arm, her voice dissolving into sobs. Cassian, you love me, not Trista! Look, even your wedding rings don’t match!

I threw her hand off, slipping the cleaned ring into my pocket.

My finger pressed against it unconsciously, a gesture of reclaiming something to my territory.

Samantha was right; Trista and my rings didn’t match.

I had been completely handsoff during the planning of the mating ceremony. Trista handled everything alone.

The pack grounds setup, the guest list, the vows, coordinating with the Moon Goddess PriestessShe ran every detail.

I’d casually delegated the rings to a beta to buy.

The beta had asked for detailscustom or simple, price range, whether to engrave the Ironthorn and Silverlight crests.

My answer then was just two words, Whatever works.

I suddenly remembered placing the ring on Trista’s finger beside the Stone Circle, amidst the

Her face was luminous with happiness.

Her wolf actively sought contact, offering her neck for my Alpha mark, her hand trembling as she recited the Luna’s vows flawlessly.

The

memory hit my chest like a physical blow. I could hear the echo in my bones.

Just then, a knock came at the door.

I composed myself. Enter.

The Ironthorn driver stood at the door, careful not to look inside.

I pointed at Samantha. My voice was cold and final. Help her pack her things. Take her and Algernon back immediatelynow.”

The driver dropped his eyes, his scent immediately subdued by my unyielding Alpha mood.

I didn’t spare them another look. I grabbed the termination agreement and the bank card from the coffee table, and strode out.

Cassian, she’s gone! You won’t find her!

Samantha’s frantic, tearful voice followed me.

My pace quickened.

Trista was staying at her parentsapartment. She shouldn’t be asleep yet.

Even if she was upset, she wouldn’t clear out our house for someone else.

She absolutely wouldn’t take the wedding ring we exchanged under the Moon Goddess’s gaze and give it to another shewolf.

This time, she went too far.

I had to find her and get the truth.

I drove myself. The night flashed past the windows, and I soon reached Ulva and Randolph’s building.

The night air was quiet, almost eerily clean.

I stood by the car, taking a deep breath, but couldn’t sense Trista’s pheromones at all.

I sent her a message, telling her to come down.

The mindlink had been completely shut off by her for days, like a scaled door. My mental attempts only bounced back echoes.

I had to resort to the most humanmethodknocking.

While waiting, I couldn’t settle down. I opened and closed the chat window repeatedly.

That simple, terse message-I’m downstairs. Come see me.”
