Chapter 123 Not Alone Anymore
The table erupted in laughter. Even Frost cracked a small smile.
“Oh my god, that’s amazing,” Clara said, wiping tears from her eyes. “Did you get in trouble?”
“I had to do an extra fifty pushups. Worth it for the story.”
“See, this is the Frost I was talking about,” Clara said to Elera. “Human! Capable of humor! Possibly even fun at parties!”
“I’m never fun at parties,” Frost said seriously. “I’m the guy watching the exits and profiling the guests.”
“That’s exactly what makes you fun at parties.”
They kept talking and laughing, sharing stories and food. It was easy and comfortable and for a few hours, Elera could almost forget about everything waiting for them outside these walls. The investigations, the enemies, the secrets that were about to come spilling out.
After dinner, Elera and Drakonius ended up on the back terrace overlooking the ocean. It was cold but clear, the stars bright overhead.
“That was nice,” Drakonius said. “Feeling almost normal.”
“It was. We should do it more often.”
“Agreed.” He was quiet for a moment. “Elera, can I ask you something?”
“Always.”
“When this is all over, when the threats are handled and the secrets are out and life calms down, what do you want? Not what you think you should want, not what makes strategic sense. What do you actually want?”
Elera thought about it and really thought about it. “I want to keep working. Keep doing research, keep saving lives. But I want to do it openly, without hiding. I want to write more books under my own name. I want to run my companies without pretending someone else is in charge. And I want…” She hesitated.
“What?”
“I want this. Whatever this is between us. I want to figure it out, see where it goes. Without the pressure of death sentences and corporate warfare. Just us, being honestly weird and complicated together”
“I want that too,” Drakonius said softly. “More than I’ve wanted anything in a long time.”
They stood close together, looking out at the dark water. Elera could feel the warmth of him next to her. solid and real. She wanted to kiss him, wanted to close that final gap between partners and something more. But the timing still didn’t feel right. They were in the eye of the storm, a temporary calm before more chaos.
When they finally kissed, she wanted it to be permanent. Not just a moment stolen between crises, but the start of something they could actually build.

So instead, she just took his hand and held it, and that felt like enough for now.
They would get to the kiss. Soon. But first, they had wars to fight and secrets to reveal and a life to build that could hold both of their complicated, brilliant, messy selves.
Together.
The next few days were a blur of preparation. Frost’s fake paper trail was brilliant, showing years of investments and partnerships between Drakonius and Nethys Medical. It would absolutely convince anyone looking that he was the silent partner, not Elera.
Meanwhile, Elera and Clara worked on the real announcement. The press release that would reveal her as the actual CEO, the founder, the genius behind the company. It was terrifying and exhilarating in equal
measure.
“Are you ready for this?” Clara asked on day nine, after they’d finalized every detail.
“No. But I’m doing it anyway.”
“That’s my girl.”
That night, Elera couldn’t sleep. Tomorrow the forensic accountants would find Frost’s fake trail. The day after, she’d announce the truth. Everything would change, again.
She found herself wandering down to Drakonius’s room around two AM. She knocked softly.
“Come in,” his voice called.
He was awake too, sitting up in bed reading. He’d been doing that more lately, reading for pleasure instead of just work documents. It was a good sign, proof that he believed he had a future worth living.
“Couldn’t sleep?” he asked.
“Too many thoughts.”
“Same.” He patted the bed next to him. “Come on. We can have insomnia together.”
She climbed into bed beside him, and they lay there in comfortable silence. After a while, Drakonius spoke.
“Whatever happens tomorrow, however people react, you’re still you Sull brilliant, still capable, still the woman who built empires from nothing. They can’t take that away from you”
