The Heiress He Underestimated novel Chapter 35

Chapter 35 A Fortress For Her Genius

The house, which felt so vast and lonely the night before, began to reveal its secrets as Drakonius led her downstairs. They didn’t go back to the main living area with the fire. Instead, he guided her down a different hallway, one lined with more books and a few pieces of stark, modern art that contrasted with the old stone walls.

“These are the private quarters,” he said, his voice echoing softly. “My rooms are at the end of this hall. Yours are upstairs. This floor is… common ground.”

He said it without any particular meaning, but the word common felt heavy. Nothing about this was common.

He stopped at a large, unassuming door made of the same dark wood as everything else. He pressed his palm to a panel beside it. There was a soft click, and the door swung inward.

Elera stepped inside and her breath caught.

It was a laboratory, but unlike any she had ever seen. It was built into the cliffside, with one entire wall made of thick, reinforced glass looking out over the ocean. The morning light flooded the space, gleaming off state–of–the–art equipment that made her own secret lab look almost quaint. Gene sequencers, protein synthesizers, bioreactors–equipment that had waiting lists years long and cost more than small countries. And it was all here, in his house, being quietly set up by a team of technicians who moved with silent efficiency.

“This…” she whispered, walking slowly into the center of the room. She ran her fingers over the cool steel of a chromatograph. “This is impossible. How did you get this here so fast?”

“I ordered it the day after you agreed to the partnership,” Drakonius said, leaning against the doorframe, watching her explore. “I had a feeling you would need a proper workspace. This wing was originally designed as a secure bio–research facility. It just needed to be… reactivated.”

She turned to look at him, truly seeing the scope of his planning for the first time. He hadn’t just bought a few pieces of equipment. He had prepared a fortress for her genius. The gesture was so immense, so sensible, and so utterly trusting that it left her speechless.
