Chapter 80 Removing The Mask (2)
Elera’s hands were shaking. She clasped them together in her lap, trying to look calm.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Thorn said, pausing for dramatic effect. “It is my profound honor to present the Visionary Pen award to Raven Shadowmere.”
The room erupted. Applause, gasps, cameras flashing like strobe lights. Everyone was looking around, trying to figure out if she was here, where she was sitting, what she looked like.
Clara appeared on stage, walking to the microphone with a confidence Elera admired. She’d changed from her earlier outfit into a dramatic purple dress that made her look like a powerful sorceress. Perfect.
“Thank you, Alistair,” Clara said, her voice steady despite the chaos. “As many of you know, Raven Shadowmere is famously private. For years, she has let her work speak for itself. But tonight…” Clara paused, her eyes scanning the crowd until they found Elera. “Tonight, she has decided it’s time to step into the light.”
The room went absolutely silent. You could have heard a pin drop.
“Raven Shadowmere is here,” Clara announced. “She is in this room. And she has agreed to accept this award in person.”
The silence shattered into chaos. People started looking around frantically. Cameras swung wildly, trying to capture whoever stood up. The energy in the room was electric, almost manic.
Elera stood up.
For a second, nothing happened. She was just another woman in a blue dress standing at her table. Then someone near the front recognized her from last night. The whisper started. “That’s Mrs. Vex. Drakonius Vex’s wife. Why is she standing?”
Then another voice, louder: “Wait. Is she? No. She can’t be.”
Elera started walking toward the stage. Every eye in the room was on her now. The whispers grew louder, more frantic. People were pulling out their phones. Camera flashes exploded around her like fireworks.
