Leon glared at Renee with pure hatred. He lunged forward, grabbed her by the collar, and growled, “Is that so? Then I’ll show you exactly how ruthless I can be.” He raised his fist, ready to strike.

“That’s enough!” Morten’s voice boomed through the room. “Look at the two of you. Are you really going to kill each other? Is this mess not big enough for you already?”

Leon stared at Renee, his fist frozen in mid–air. He struggled to force his anger down, his hand trembling with the effort.

Renee looked at him mockingly. “Go ahead. Hit me. If you’ve got the guts, kill me right here. At least then I’d think you were a man. Otherwise, drop the act.”

Leon eventually let go and shoved her back onto the sofa. He ran his hands through his hair, looking completely frustrated.

Renee adjusted her collar with a look of contempt. “I gave you a chance and you didn’t take it. Don’t touch me again, or I won’t be so polite next time.”

Morten sat back down on the sofa and looked at Renee. “What’s next? You’ve already turned Triny into this. Tell us your plan so we know how to cooperate.”

Renee let out a cold laugh. “You don’t need to know my plan. I’ll tell you when I’ve finished setting things up. For now, your job is to watch Triny. Make sure she mimics Lilian perfectly. She isn’t allowed to leave this house. If that man finds out and ruins my plan, we’re all finished.”

She stood up and sneered. “I’ve said what I needed to say. I know you don’t want to look at me, so I’ll stay out of your sight.”

As she headed for the stairs, she stopped and turned back. “One more thing. Don’t try to leave Dracovia. You know what I do for a iving. If you step out of my reach and something happens to Triny, don’t blame me.” She then turned and walked upstairs.

Jane followed right behind her.

Leon kicked the sofa in a rage as they disappeared.

“Stop it,” Morten said, sounding exhausted. “Did you not hear what she just said? Do you really want to burn every bridge we have left?”

“Are the bridges not already burned?” Leon shouted. “She did this to my daughter! Are we really just going to let her do whatever she wants?”

Morten looked at Triny and sighed. “What choice do we have? She made the threat clear. Are you going to risk Triny’s life?”

Leon looked at his daughter and crouched down, clutching his head in frustration.
