The click of high heels echoed from the stairs as Renee drifted down in a dress. Her hair was swept up in a sleek bun and her makeup was perfect, giving her an air that was both elegant and dangerous.
Triny watched her approach, a flash of hatred flickering in her eyes before she buried it. She turned back to the TV, trying to stay expressionless. She’d realized lately that Renee was the most ruthless person in the entire Lindt family. The woman didn’t have a soul; she’d turn her own niece into a puppet without blinking if it got her what she wanted.
“Mom, are you heading out?” Jane asked, her voice dripping with fake sweetness.
“Yes, I have things to take care of,” Renee said. Her voice was smooth as she turned to Triny. “You don’t look particularly happy to see me, Triny.”
Triny let out a cold laugh. “You’re imagining things. I wouldn’t dare.”
Renee sat down beside Triny and took the girl’s hand, her tone turning motherly and manipulative. “I know you’re bitter about what I’ve turned you into. But you have to understand, I did this for you and for the family. Look at that woman on the screen. She has everything, and she only has it because of the man standing behind her. That man should have been yours. She stole your life, and we’re going to take it back by any means necessary.”
“She’s right,” Jane added. “You and Sebastian grew up together. You were childhood sweethearts. If she hadn’t come along, you’d be the one wearing his ring right now. She’s just a thief living your life.”
Triny listened to them, feeling nothing but disgust. They made it sound like they were doing her a favor, but she knew she was just a pawn in their game. She hated Lilian, sure, but she hated Renee and Jane even more. She just didn’t have the power to fight them yet. Renee was a psychopath, and there was no telling what she’d do if Triny stepped out of line.
‘I know you’re doing this for me,” Triny said, her voice flat. “Don’t worry. I’ll play my part. I’ll make sure my Lilian act is perfect.”
Renee’s eyes stayed cold despite her smile. “That’s what I like to hear.” She stood up and glanced at Jane. “Stay here and keep her
ocused. Got it?”
‘I’ve got it, Mom,” Jane said.
With that, Renee turned and walked out of the villa.
