Henry felt like he’d been slapped in the face. The realization that he had been played by his own flesh and blood stung more than the bankruptcy itself.
Looking back, he was convinced Lilian had set a trap from the very beginning, just waiting for him to stumble in. The more he thought about it, the more his blood boiled.

Henry glared at Morgan, his chest heaving. Finally, he took a jagged breath, shoved his chair back with a deafening screech, and stormed upstairs without a word.
Chloe’s eyes burned with resentment, but she knew she couldn’t do anything alone. Without Henry to back her up, she didn’t have the nerve to face Lilian, especially when she remembered the icy, soul–piercing look in Lilian’s eyes. She actually shuddered at the thought.
But then, a dark idea sparked in her mind. Her expression twisted into something nasty, and she turned to head out of the house.

Lilian sat at the breakfast table, calmly scanning the morning paper. Every so often, a cold smirk touched her lips. “The Sorens certainly didn’t disappoint. They leaked my identity faster than I expected. And these headlines… they really have a vivid imagination.”
Sebastian sat beside her, ladling a bowl of soup and placing it in front of her. “Eat first. The news just broke; I suspect their real moves are still coming. I have Foster monitoring everything. The second the narrative starts to shift toward a smear campaign, we’re hitting back.”

Lilian’s cheeks flushed pink as she stood up. “Grandpa? Eric? What are you doing here so early?”
