Sebastian let out a dry laugh. “Don’t bother. If we take them out now, we miss the show. I want to see exactly what gift Robert has waiting for us today. I just hope it’s actually worth the wait.”
“Understood,” Foster replied.
The atmosphere at the Skyreach offices was suffocating. The street was lined with news vans from every major outlet in the city. Reporters and camera crews were everywhere, checking their gear and speculating about the location.
“I can’t believe they’re actually doing this at the headquarters,” one journalist said to his cameraman. “Usually, people this deep in a scandal hide in a hotel ballroom.”
“They must be confident,” the cameraman shrugged. “Either that, or they’re just showing off. It’ll be interesting to finally see what it looks like inside.”
Up in the main conference hall, Karina was on edge, snapping at staff to get the details right. “Move that plant, it looks cluttered. And check the mics one more time. If the audio cuts out once the stream starts, I’m holding you personally responsible.”
Wayne leaned against the wall, watching her. “Take it down a notch, Karina. You’re acting like we’re heading into a literal war.”
Karina glared at him. “We’ve been taking hits for days while we were forced to stay quiet. Today is about setting the record straight, and I am not letting a single technical glitch ruin it.”
“Fair enough,” Wayne said. “By the way, where’s Ryan?”
“He went to the lobby,” Karina said. “Apparently a courier dropped something off for the company and he wanted to sign for it personally.”
The doors opened and Ryan walked in, looking far more relaxed than everyone else. “What’s with the faces?” he asked, seeing them staring.
“Where’s the delivery?” Karina asked.
Ryan just smiled. “I’m keeping it under wraps for now. You’ll see it during the briefing. I think Lilian is going to get a kick out of it.”
Wayne chuckled. “Look at you, keeping secrets. You’ve definitely been spending too much time with the legal team.”
“I’m just learning how to build suspense,” Ryan joked.
Karina checked her watch and cut them off. “Alright, that’s enough. We have thirty minutes until the cameras go live. Do one last sweep. I don’t want any surprises once the room is full.”
“We’re ready,” Wayne assured her. “Everything is set. Now we just wait for the boss.”
At Ravenwood Manor, Lilian stepped out of the elevator. She had traded her usual jeans and sneakers for a sharp white suit. Her hair was pulled back into a sleek, professional style, and her makeup was more polished than usual, giving her a more mature
look.
The blazer was tailored perfectly, cinched with a black belt that highlighted her silhouette, paired with matching trousers and red heels. She didn’t look like a student anymore; she looked like someone who ran the city.
