A phone rang nearby, and the butler hurried over to answer it. After a few brief words, he looked toward Robert. “Sir, it’s the office. They say it’s urgent.”
Robert tore his eyes away from the television, walked over, and snatched the receiver. “What is it?”
“Sir, we have a disaster on our hands,” the voice on the other end was frantic. “The Philips family has pulled out of every single joint venture we have. And it’s not just them, in Solara, the Larson, Goodman, and Shanks families have all officially withdrawn their support from Soren Corp projects. Everything has ground to a halt. Our capital chain is completely broken.”
Robert gripped the phone, his knuckles turning white. “What are you talking about? How does something this massive happen without warning? We’ve been partners for years. Why would they all pull out at once?”
“They started the process a few days ago,” the executive explained. “We thought we could negotiate and keep it quiet, but as of this morning, the funding has officially dried up. We can’t cover the project costs anymore. We had to report it.”
“The reason,” Robert hissed. “Don’t tell me you don’t know why.”
“Our team reached out,” the man replied. “The Philips family was blunt. They said we offended someone we shouldn’t have. The families in Solara gave the exact same reason. They told us to figure it out ourselves.”
Robert’s brow furrowed as the weight of the words sank in. Offended someone we shouldn’t have. He looked back at the girl on the television screen, a look of pure horror crossing his face. “Could it be…” He turned to the butler immediately. “Get the car ready. Now!”
Back in the conference hall, the atmosphere was electric. Lilian looked at Rowan and let out a cold laugh. “Well? Do you have any more gifts for me, or was that the finale?”
Rowan’s expression was murderous. He leaned in, his voice a low snarl. “Don’t get cocky, Lilian. So what if you cleared your name today? I’ll tell you straight! We will get that land from you one way or another!” He turned to his entourage. “We’re leaving.”
“You really think you’re just going to walk out of here?” Lilian called out.
Rowan stopped in his tracks and turned back. “What is that supposed to mean?”

Lilian walked slowly toward him, her smile dripping with sarcasm. “You think the doors to Skyreach Group are a revolving vent? You think this is Soren Corp, where you can just come and go as you please?”
Rowan sneered. “I did you a favor just by showing up here. What are you going to do? Try to physically stop me?”
