Chapter 115 Worries About Elias

Kenneth took a breath. “He’s too cold. Too ruthless. I’m worried he’s got some kind of violent streak–that one day he might hurt you. Sure, he’s successful and good–looking, but as a boyfriend? I’m scared he’ll drain you emotionally.”
“Kenneth, don’t worry about that. If a man ever drains me emotionally, I’d drop him so fast he wouldn’t know what hit him.”
“Good attitude. Keep that.”
“Elias is gentle, actually. He’s not cold at all. And he’s not heartless–he just believes in giving back what he gets. I really like that about him.”
Kenneth blinked.
Gentle? That word and Elias didn’t belong in the same sentence.
“I really like you too.”
Before she could respond, she was wrapped in a warm embrace. Elias exhaled slowly, relief flooding his features now that he could see she was safe.
“What are you doing? We’re in public. Have some decorum.”
A girl’s reputation mattered. Didn’t he know that?
“Brother Kenneth.”
Kenneth’s eyes went wide. “Don’t ‘Brother‘ me. Who’s your brother?”
“My bad. I haven’t properly come calling on you.”
“Elias. This is the first time I’m realizing how shameless you actually are.”
Stella bit back a smile. She looped her left arm through Elias‘ and her right through Kenneth’s, gently pulling them apart to create some breathing room.
“I’m hungry.”
“Stella, what are you craving?”
She blinked. “BBQ”
“Perfect. I know a place–best BBQ in the city.”
“Then Kenneth leads the way. I’m paying.”
Kenneth stared at him.
At the restaurant, Kenneth sat across from the couple and tried not to feel like a third wheel.

“I’ll have someone track him down. Get him recommitted as soon as possible. I’m also arranging security for you. For now, you need to be careful. Try not to go anywhere alone. I’ll drive you to and from the university.”
“Got it.”
Kenneth had never heard Elias talk this much in his entire life.
Was this even the same person?
“Too spicy?”
Stella shook her head, smiling. “Perfect.”
“This brisket is good. Try it.”
She took a bite, and her eyes lit up.
“So good.”
“What else do you want? I’ll cook it for you.”
“You should eat too.”
She picked up a piece of meat and dropped it in his plate.
“Ahem.”
“Kenneth? You okay?”
Kenneth’s chest felt tight. He never thought he’d live to see the day Elias rubbed his happiness in his face.
“Nothing. Just eat.”
Damn it. The second Elias showed up, Kenneth might as well have been invisible.
But considering how much the guy clearly cared about his sister, fine. He’d be the bigger person.
His phone buzzed.
“Mr. Shaw, the Moores want to settle privately. They’re asking your sister to name a price.”
Kenneth rolled his eyes so hard it was almost audible.
“Do we look like we need money? Sue them. Take them for everything.”
“Understood.”
Kenneth took a long sip of iced water to cool down.
“Kenneth, who are you suing?”
“Amber. Just because she’s a Moore, she thinks she can trash people’s reputations whenever she wants. Her

Kenneth refilled her glass. “Stella. We don’t start fights. We don’t bully people. But we don’t take crap from anyone either. If someone in this city messes with you, you hit back. Hard. And if anything happens, we
handle it.”
Elias cooked another piece of meat for her, his voice soft. “Kenneth’s right. Your only job is to stay safe and not let anyone hurt you. Leave the rest to us.”
Stella–who had spent her whole life handling everything alone–felt something warm settle in her chest.
“I get it.”
After lunch, Kenneth insisted they walk off the meal.
His version of “walking it off” meant taking her to a high–end jeweler’s private showroom and pointing at whatever raw gemstones caught his eye.
“Stella, I’ve heard geniuses burn through mental energy. We could have it carved into a stone lounger–it’s meant to calm the mind, ease tiredness, and help you sleep better.”
“Kenneth. We’ve bought enough today.”
“Enough? I was planning to take you to an auction next week. Get you some real pieces. What’s a girl without jewelry?”
Noticing she rarely wore anything, his heart ached for her.
