Chapter 15 The Cost of Apologies
“I’m the one who was the homewrecker. I’m the one with no shame…
“I made up lies. I insulted Professor Stella Shaw. I damaged her reputation badly, and I brought disgrace to Azure Peak University.
“I know I’ve done unforgivable things. But I’m sorry. Please, Professor Shaw, forgive my ignorance. Give me another chance–I’ll change, I promise.
“Professor Shaw, I’m sorry. I know I was wrong…”
Jasmine didn’t want anyone to see her insincere expression. She bowed again, repeating over and over. “Professor Shaw, I’m sorry. I know I messed up. Please forgive me.”
She couldn’t risk expulsion. No matter how much she hated it, she had to apologize.
“To show how sorry I am, I’ll clean the soccer field every day–rain or shine. Let every student here watch me. Please give me one more chance…
“I’m sorry, Professor Shaw. I was wrong. Forgive me…”
Her ten–thousand–word apology was filled with lines about her own shamelessness and endless pleas for Stella’s forgiveness.
“Jasmine, you’ve said ‘sorry‘ three hundred times. Are you just padding the word count?” someone sneered. It was one of the students who’d been punished for following Jasmine’s lead earlier.
Jasmine’s face turned red, then pale with embarrassment.
She kept her head down and slunk to the side.
Silas‘ apology was the same–nothing but “Professor Shaw,” “I’m sorry,” and “I don’t deserve forgiveness.”
In the end, their three ten–thousand–word apologies were posted on the bulletin board as a warning to
everyone.
That day, Stella’s lecture hall was packed to the brim.
After class, everyone couldn’t stop talking about her.
“Miss Shaw is amazing!”
“She’s a total genius.”
“Did you understand any of it?”
“Uh… no.”
“But the math majors all worship her like a goddess.”
Hearing everyone praise Stella so highly made Silas and Jasmine’s faces turn dark with rage.

“Mr. Thorne, where’s your ex–fiancée? My future girl?” Marcus asked.
His words made Silas‘ regret grow stronger. He’d thrown away a fiancée who was both brilliant and beautiful–all by himself.
“Mr. Reed, look! That’s Stella Shaw, surrounded by people. Your future wife,” Jasmine said, grinning maliciously and pointing in Stella’s direction.
Marcus followed her finger.
One glance, and he felt like he couldn’t breathe.
This “nun” looks like a goddess come down to earth!
She’s so beautiful!
He swallowed hard, his lecherous eyes fixed on Stella. He rubbed his hands together greedily.
“Mr. Reed, patience is key if you want this to work,” Ruby warned from the side.
There were too many people here. Stella could run away easily.
“Fine, fine, fine–I’ll wait. You make sure she comes to me,” Marcus said.
“I promise,” Ruby replied.
For that hundred million dollars, she’d tie Stella up and drag her to Marcus‘ bed if she had to.
Silas seethed silently.
Marcus was nothing but a total creep trying to get his hands on someone way out of his league.
“Silas, what’s wrong?” Jasmine asked.
“Isn’t this going too far? It’s cruel,” he muttered,
Jasmine froze for a second, then her eyes filled with fake tears. “Silas, have you forgotten everything she
did to us?”
Now, no matter where Igo in Azure Peak City, it feels like people are laughing at me.
It’s all Stella’s fault.
“I’m going home,” Silas said, turning to leave.
Jasmine didn’t stop him. After all, she didn’t want him to know what they were planning–it would ruin her image.
“Stella Shaw!”
Ruby stepped in front of her, blocking her path.

Stella frowned, her eyes cold as ice.
Fimshed
Just one look from Stella made Ruby’s blood run cold. She remembered how Stella had almost choked her last time, and took a step back, her voice trembling. “Your mother left a necklace. Do you want it? If not, I’ll throw it away.”
Stella stopped walking.
“Bring it to me.”
“It’s inside my home. You’ll have to come get it,” Ruby said.
Stella narrowed her eyes, her gaze sharp and dangerous.
