Chapter 248 Fireworks and a Sudden Call
It was already strange that she looked like her grandma. But she also resembled her dad.
Judging by her age, a thought flashed through Stella’s mind.
“Stella, what are you thinking about?”
“Nothing. I was just saying–you dragged me into danger, and all you give me is a sorry?”
“I’ll also donate a billion to the Shaw Foundation.”
Stella swallowed her next words.
She had to admit, fundraising for charity always went surprisingly smoothly for her.
“I’m leaving.”
“My grandfather wants to meet you. Is that alright?”
Stella paused. “What for?”
“Probably to persuade you.”
“No need. I have no interest in your family’s power. But I am curious about your library.”
They were a legendary medical clan, after all.
They must have countless lost medical texts and rare herbs.

She wanted to go–but stepping inside would mean joining the Corbins and diving straight into their
power struggles. She refused.
But if she could save Sean’s life… might she be allowed to borrow the books?
“If you ever visit the Corbin estate, you’re welcome to look around.”
Stella hesitated. The brothers were surprisingly unguarded around her.
“If you insist, I’ll come when I have time.”
She left.
Shane tried to say more, but Sean held him back.
“Sean, why didn’t you ask her to stay for dinner?”

“She might not want to.”
“Fine.”
Sean watched her leave, a faint smile on his lips.
If only I could live.

Cloudreach Manor.
Elias had cooked a candlelit dinner himself.
Stella leaned against the doorway, watching him fry steak with soft affection.
“Mrs. Cross, would you like to change into an evening gown?”
The butler had learned that calling her Mrs. Cross always pleased Elias.
Stella blinked and nodded. “Alright.”
Ever since she joined the medical research institute, time with Elias had grown scarce. Tomorrow she would return to
the lab again.
Stella changed into a purple strapless tulle dress. The family makeup artist gave her a light look, and she curled her long hair softly.
At the sound of footsteps, Elias had already taken off his apron and put on a suit.
He watched her walk toward him with deep, loving eyes.
He met her at the stairs and held out his arm.
The servants smiled and quietly stepped away.
“You made cake too.”
Stella lit up, cupped his face, and kissed his lips.
Gazing into his smiling eyes, she laced her fingers through his and touched the engagement ring on his long finger.
She smiled happily, her voice soft and drawn–out. “Mr. Cross, you’re getting more and more husband material.”

Elias pressed a hand to the back of her head and kissed her deeply.
The air filled with warmth and sweetness.

When they parted, he swept her into his arms and gently set her in her seat. He leaned over the table, caging her in.
“I am your husband.”
His tone was possessive. He tilted her chin and kissed her again, reluctant to let go.
“Darling, cheers!”
Elias‘ heart skipped, his breath quickening.
“Cheers, my love.”
Stella sipped the rich red wine and sighed contentedly.
“Your cooking keeps getting better.” She dug in happily.
Elias smiled. It had been worth learning from a Michelin–starred chef in his spare time.
She was so busy, even though she loved food, she rarely had time to enjoy it. As her fiancé, he wanted to grant her small wishes.
“Elias, did you secretly take lessons?”
“Mm–hmm.”
“You’re so busy… and you still made time?”
He earned enough in a minute to hire a dozen chefs.
“I’ve had more free time since we’ve dated less lately.”
He had even set aside time for video calls, but she was always pulled away in minutes.
Thinking of all she did, Elias wanted to be her strongest support.
