Chapter 29 The Uninvited Invitation
“Otherwise what?”
Jasmine panicked too.
“Otherwise you’ll never get another shot,” Ruby said.
“Why not?” Jasmine frowned, totally confused.
Ruby’s face turned grave.
Stella had actually found White Pit Village. Not only did she show up, but she walked away unscathed.
She must know something. She’d definitely expose the past they were so desperate to hide.
And when that happened, the Thorne family would never accept Jasmine.
“Jasmine, stay out of family business from now on. Your only job is to win Silas over. Lock down your engagement as soon as possible. Better yet, marry him right away,” Ruby ordered.
“Is it Stella? What did she do this time?”
Ever since Stella showed up, their family had been hit with one disaster after another.
“So she’s good at studying–so what? What connections does she have? She’s just a working stiff like everyone else,” Jasmine scoffed.
Stella being a straight–A student stung, but Jasmine told herself Stella had grown up in a convent with no family or connections. She was just a fancy version of a regular employee.
Jasmine didn’t see why she should be scared.
If she wasn’t worried about getting expelled, she’d have taught that hick a lesson long ago.
“Jasmine, act like nothing’s wrong these days. I’ll figure out how to bail your dad out. When the trial comes, we’ll pay whatever fines we need to,” Ruby said.
“Got it.”
Ruby’s expression remained heavy.
She couldn’t let Stella keep meddling. How could she keep Stella too busy to bother them?
–
At Azure Peak University, Stella was leaving after finishing her class.
“Miss Shaw!”
Jasmine walked up to her, a bright smile on her face–as if their past conflicts had never happened.

Silas was right behind her, along with several other students.
“Miss Shaw, we’re going to Iris‘ concert the day after tomorrow. Want to come with us?”
“No, thanks. You guys go have fun,” Stella replied.
A sneer tugged at Jasmine’s lips. “Miss Shaw, did you not manage to get tickets?”
Stella paused, looking at her with a half–smile.
“I have an extra ticket. Here, take it,” Jasmine offered.
Stella was confused. What was this about?
“Miss Shaw, aren’t you a big fan of Iris? Take it,” Jasmine insisted.
Silas had a condescending look too.

Sure, she was a top SAT scorer. But she was still just an assistant professor, stuck on a fixed salary. And she’d dumped him–publicly, making him a laughingstock online.
He wanted to make her regret dumping him, to beg him to take her back. He’d even let her be his backup girlfriend if she groveled enough.
“A fan of Iris?” Stella raised an eyebrow, surprised.
“You use her merchandise for your notebook and pen. Doesn’t that mean you like her?” Jasmine said.
Stella looked down at her notebook, feeling speechless.
Could she say she’d just used what she already had at home to avoid wasting money, so she hadn’t bought
new ones?
She’d wondered why they were acting so weird. Turns out they’d come to flaunt their superiority.
“Miss Shaw, I’ll treat you. Think of it as making up for our little misunderstanding earlier,” Jasmine said, linking arms with Silas. A mocking smile played on her lips.
“I bet you’ve never been to an Iris concert before. Come with us!”
She had an agenda.
Stella had ruined so much for their family. She was going to ruin Stella’s reputation–make sure she lost her teaching job for good.
She’d never had a chance to get close to Stella before. But if Stella went to the concert, she’d make sure Stella couldn’t work as a professor anymore.
Without an income, how could she afford to sue her dad?
Silas was just bitter about being dumped. Especially the way she’d done it–humiliating him in front of
everyone.

He stuffed his hands in his pockets, his gaze arrogant. “I hired Nirvana to write and compose a song for Iris. I’m going to give it to her for her birthday. Come with us, Miss Shaw. I can get you an autograph. Maybe even a photo with Iris.”
“Yeah, Miss Shaw! Come with us!”
“Miss Shaw, let’s go fan–girling together, okay?”
Silas‘ lackeys chipped in eagerly.
Stella stayed calm, wearing a polite smile. She didn’t look the least bit excited about the free concert ticket, or the chance to get Nirvana’s autograph.
“You guys won’t have fun with a teacher around. Be safe,” she said.
Stella not only refused the invitation–she didn’t take the ticket they offered either.
She just walked away.
‘Silas, do you think she looks down on you?” Jasmine asked in a cutesy tone, trying to stir the pot.
‘Putting on an act. We’ll see how long she can keep it up,” Silas muttered. He thought Stella was just being overly proud.
Geeks from poor backgrounds like her hated being called vain more than anything.
‘Mr. Thorne, will we get to meet Nirvana at the concert?” one student asked.
‘Of course! Mr. Thorne paid her ten million dollars to write the song. Meeting her is the least she can do,” another replied.
‘Mr. Thorne, can you take me too? I want Nirvana’s autograph!”
‘Me too! Her autographs are super rare!”
Hearing all the flattery, Silas felt the ten million dollars was well spent.
Still, Stella’s calm demeanor left a tiny twinge of disappointment in his chest.
Jasmine felt a pang of jealousy but didn’t dare say anything more.
She was frustrated that she hadn’t managed to lure Stella to the concert. It would ruin her plan.
