Chapter 295 A Night of Cuddles
“It’s acute gastroenteritis. She needs an IV and some rest. Don’t let her eat too much irritating food at once next time.”
Leo shot Jax a clear, warning look.
“Why are you staring at me? I’m innocent.”
Before Jax could argue, everyone else entered the hospital room.
“Does it still hurt, sweetie?”
Aaron was completely heartbroken.
“Yes,”
Aaron touched her head with teary eyes.
Just then, Stella and Elias arrived.
“Chloe.”
“Mommy.”
She snuggled weakly into Stella’s arms.
“Uncle Elias, stop looking at me like that.”
Jax quickly glanced at the other three kids. They were pressed against the wall, looking guilty. At their age and height, no one could bear to scold them.
“Daddy, don’t be mad at Jax. He treated me. He’s good.”
Jax’s eyes widened. Little princess, please stop talking before you make it worse!
“Look what you’ve done.”
Amelia pinched Jax’s ear. He winced in pain. “Mom, please spare me some dignity.”
Chloe was weak and her voice was soft. “Don’t hit Jax. He’s poor. We wanted the meal, and he paid.”
“Mom, hear that? I’m the innocent one!” Jax almost cried in relief.
“Auntie, I’m sorry. It was my idea. I didn’t know eating our favorite food would make her sick.” Miles looked full of guilt.
“I helped too.” Jason’s eyes turned red seeing Chloe in pain.
Liam stared at Elias‘ angry face and lowered his head, blaming himself. “Dad, it’s not Jax’s fault. We made him pay.”

“So you all ate together.” Amelia stared at her son. Jax held his breath. “Yes.”
“How old are you? A three–year–old doesn’t know better, but you do! Why didn’t you stop them?”
“I was tricked!”
“Tricked by toddlers? Do you think I’m stupid?”
Jax wanted to cry but had no tears.
“We’re sorry, Jax,” the four kids said together.
Jax waved his hand casually. “It’s fine. I’m used to it.”
“Mommy, I’m sleepy.”
“Then sleep. Mommy will stay with you.”
“Okay.”
Stella stayed with their daughter. Everyone else left the room.
After learning the whole story, the three boys were punished as expected.
“Uncle Elias, can I get my money back?” Jax smiled proudly.
Amelia grabbed him. “Being fooled by kids makes you proud?”
“I let them fool me. I didn’t want to ruin their fun. I knew what they were doing.”
“I’d believe that only if I were crazy.”
Jax fell silent. Is she even my real mother?
“Elias, I’ll take Dad home. Call me if anything happens.”
“Okay.”
After Amelia left, the Shaw boys were taken home too.
“Mommy, I’m sorry I didn’t protect Chloe.” Liam lowered his head in guilt.
“It’s not your fault.”
“I’ll watch her next time.”
“Liam, don’t trick Jax like that again. It’s not right.”
“I understand.”
Liam looked up seriously. “I’ll apologize to Jax properly.”
“Good boy.” Stella patted his head. He smiled shyly.
