Leo had just received a bottle of medicine from Elias and couldn’t stop grinning. He was already planning to study it carefully once he got home.

“Ring…”

His phone cut through the moment.

He stepped aside to take the call.

Gideon knocked and entered the office at the same time. He glanced at Elias, then over at Leo.

“What? Grandpa collapsed again?”

Leo’s expression shifted. After rattling off a few quick instructions, he was about to head out when Gideon stopped him.

“Mr. Moore, we found your uncle, Jasper.”

Leo froze mid–step.

“Go. I’ll handle the rest.”

Elias, for all his coldness, was a man of his word when it came down to it.

“Elias, I’m counting on you.”

“Sweetheart.”

Ruby hadn’t been sleeping or eating properly for days, and it showed. She looked completely drained.

“It’s okay.”

Derek’s voice was heavy with exhaustion.

“Go entertain the Thornes for now. I’m heading upstairs to clean up.”

“Alright.”

Derek caught his reflection in the hallway mirror. The hair at his temples had gone completely gray

He looked like he’d aged a decade in a matter of days.

He’d always thought Stella was just some small–town girl who spent her days chanting prayers and had no idea how the real world worked. He’d seriously underestimated her.

He didn’t dare pour all his money into Harlow Group anymore. Without that woman Luna, he was even worse at business than before.

Over the years, he’d hired professionals to run things, but the company had never really taken off.

Maybe investing in Thorne Group was the smarter play. At least then the money might actually grow.

By the time Derek came back downstairs, the entire Thorne family had arrived.

“For the kids‘ engagement, whatever conditions you have, just name them. The Thornes will do everything we can to meet them.”

Arthur knew better than anyone that there weren’t many people left willing to help his family right now. Even if the Harlows wasn’t the ideal partner, it could still get them through the immediate crisis.

Besides, those two had grown up together. Not only did friends and family know about their relationship, but plenty of people online had followed their story too.

If the Thornes backed out of the engagement now, their reputation might never recover.

“Mr. Thorne, Silas and I really love each other. All we need is our families‘ blessing.”

Hearing that, Elaine’s expression softened just a little.

Only Silas felt the weight of resentment pressing down on him.

He’d been drawn to Stella the moment he first saw her, but she wanted nothing to do with him.

He’d honestly thought she’d come crawling back when things got difficult, maybe even ask for his help. That hadn’t happened at all.

And Iris–he’d been a fan, sure. He’d also hoped that getting close to the Monroe family would elevate the Thornes‘ standing. But now, he didn’t have the luxury of choice anymore.

“Both our families have been dealing with nothing but bad luck lately. I say we move the engagement up sooner rather than later–ward off the negativity.”

Arthur smiled warmly. “Jasmine, don’t worry. Even with short notice, your engagement party with Silas will be grand and memorable.”

“Thank you.”

Jasmine could barely contain her joy. She was finally going to marry Silas.

“I checked the calendar. Next Saturday’s a good day.”

Silas‘ brow furrowed slightly. “Isn’t that rushing it a bit?”

“What do you think?”

“What was that about earlier?” Derek asked, his voice cool.

Ruby pulled him into their bedroom. “Sweetheart, Stella went to White Pit Village.”

“What? Did she find something?”

Now Derek’s alarm was genuine.

“She didn’t just find something–she rescued every trafficked woman there and brought in the police.”

Derek’s jaw tightened. “I really underestimated her.”
