"One day, when you're older, you'll realize everything I'm doing is for your own good."
Jasper's eyes were like ice. "You just want the Walsh family fortune. Aren't you afraid of choking on it?"
"Watch your tongue!" Felix barked.
Jasper pushed past him and headed for the stairs.
"Where do you think you're going?" Felix called out, but Jasper didn't bother to answer. "Your thesis was approved. Starting next week, unless it's an emergency, you're done at Azure Peak University. I bought a private island; you're going there with Zoe to work on your relationship. Do you hear me? Jasper! Get back here!"
Jasper ignored him, heading straight for the garage.
"Stop him!" Felix shouted to his men.
The bodyguards rushed to block the exit, but Jasper was the better driver. He maneuvered around them with precision, eventually smashing through the estate's perimeter wall to make his escape.
"Find him!" Felix yelled, his face turning an angry shade of green. "Don't let him get away!" He turned toward his wife. "And you—why didn't you say anything to stop him?"
Vivian let out a cold laugh. "Are you trying to drive your own son to his grave, Felix?"
"Most people would kill for the life he has," Felix scoffed. "He's not going to kill himself. Don't be ridiculous. If he doesn't love Zoe, he'll just bury himself in his work. She loves him, and with our families partnered up, the Moores come out on top. It's a win-win."
Vivian stared at him, speechless. "I must have been blind to marry a man like you. You're destroying our children."
"Why you—"
"Felix, you'd better hope I never get the upper hand," she hissed.
"Take the lady to her room," Felix ordered the staff.
Vivian didn't give him a second glance as she stormed upstairs in a rage.
Jasper ditched the bodyguards' cars and headed straight to the house he'd prepared for their future together. He had bought this place with his own investment earnings, personally designing and overseeing every detail of the renovation. It was a home he and Nicole had decorated together.
He was about to head inside when the sound of sobbing caught his attention.
"Who's there?" Jasper asked, his voice cold and sharp.
Nicole slowly looked up, her eyes clouded with tears.
"Nicole!"
Relief washed over him, chasing away the agitation that had been gnawing at him all day. He dropped to his knees, gripping her shoulders before pulling her into a fierce, ecstatic embrace.
"What's wrong? Did someone hurt you?" he asked. He gently wiped the tears from her cheeks, his voice dropping to a soft whisper as if he were afraid of startling her.
"Are you getting engaged?" she asked.
Jasper's heart ached at the words. He kissed her forehead tenderly. "I've been engaged for a long time. My fiancée is you—don't you remember?"
He brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear and swept her up into his arms.
"Jasper," she murmured.
"I'm here."
"You're mine."
Jasper paused mid-stride. He looked down at her, his eyes burning with sudden intensity. "What did you say?"

Once she left, would she ever see him again?
