Even though her identity was out in the open now, she still wasn’t comfortable with that title. It invited the wrong kind of attention.
“Miss Shaw,
Stella sat across from him. When their eyes met, both wore polite, practiced smiles.
“So, Mr. Shaw. What brings you here today?”
Frederick didn’t waste time. “I’d like you to treat my grandfather.”
“Oh?”
“Don’t worry, Miss Shaw. The Shaw family is prepared to pay whatever it takes to jump the line.”
Stella smiled slightly. “On behalf of all the families who’ve had to give up on treatment because they couldn’t afford it–thank you.”
There was something about this woman. Her methods were direct, maybe even aggressive, but it was hard to find fault with her.
Frederick slid a check across the table. “Fill in whatever amount you think is fair. But I have one condition.”
“Understood. If the treatment doesn’t work, the
money comes back.”
Stella didn’t waste words. “I’ll need his medical records.”
Frederick had come prepared.
She scanned through Vincent’s files, her brow furrowing slightly.
“When can I see him?”
“Right now.”
Stella closed the folder. “Then let’s go.”
Frederick blinked. Wasn’t this meeting only supposed to last half an hour?
At Shaw Estate.
“Stella.”
Tess jogged toward her, medical bag in hand.
Stella smiled. “My assistant.”
“Mr. Shaw.”

Frederick nodded and led them inside.
“Frederick. You’re back.”
Kenneth stood in a perfectly tailored suit, the clean lines accentuating his frame. His striking eyes shifted to Stella, and a polite smile crossed his sharp features.
“And this is?”
“The Prodigy Healer. Stella Shaw.”
Something flickered in Kenneth’s eyes, but he recovered quickly. He extended a hand, his tone warm. “Dr. Shaw. I’m Kenneth. A pleasure.”
Stella shook his hand briefly. “Likewise.”
“We’re counting on you with our grandfather.”
I can.”
through the courtyard and stopped outside Vincent’s door.
Give us a moment.”
urse.”
rederick slipped inside. Through the gap in the door, Stella caught a glimpse of a frail figure leaning by the window.
She couldn’t see his face clearly, but she could feel it–a deep, bone–weary sadness.
“Grandfather.”
“You’re back.”
Vincent’s voice was calm, steady. His gaze stayed fixed outside. If you looked closely, you could see the main gate from here.
“Grandfather. I’ve brought someone to see you. Let her take a look.”
“What difference does it make?”
“She’s the Master Healer’s disciple. The Prodigy Healer.”
Vincent turned slowly. A bitter smile tugged at his lips. “Doesn’t matter who it is. No one can fix what’s wrong with me.”
Frederick’s chest tightened. He forced a smile anyway.
“Grandfather. Your health is everything. You can’t hold onto hope if you don’t have your health.”
“Tell her to meet me in the garden pavilion.”

Frederick nodded. “It’s windy. Take your coat.”
He helped his grandfather into his jacket, and they made their way outside slowly.
“Grandfather.”
Kenneth stood as they approached. Stella rose too. A breeze caught her hair–long, flowing–and she tucked a stray strand behind her car. Her eyes, striking and clear, held a trace of cool composure. A faint smile played at her lips.
Vincent stopped mid–step. His lips parted slightly.
“Grandfather? You okay?”
Frederick’s voice carried concern.
“This is… the Prodigy Healer?”
“Yes, Stella Shaw.”
Vincent nodded slowly, his eyes never leaving her face.
