Chapter 77 Fireworks and Confession

Amelia burst through the door and immediately started messing up his hair like she used to when they were kids.
Elias took a breath and kept his voice calm. “Stella, my sister just showed up–my actual sister. I don’t let any women in my place except her.”
Stella almost laughed at that. “Good to know. I’ll make sure not to drop by, then, Wouldn’t want to get turned away at the door.”
‘No, that’s not what I meant. You’re different. You’re not included in that rule. So… when are you coming
over?”
“We’ll see.”
“I’ll be waiting.”
“Go hang out with your family.”
Stella glanced up at the sky. Having someone light up the night just for her… it wasn’t a bad feeling at all.
“Yeah, talk to you later.”
The second he hung up, Elias‘ whole demeanor shifted. His voice dropped a few degrees. “So what do you want, Amelia?”
“Elias, you’re honestly kind of pathetic when you like someone.”
“You’re the one who always said that when a guy’s down bad for a girl who actually cares about him, his life basically becomes perfect.”
Amelia just stared at him.
“Don’t pull anything weird next time. You might scare off the woman I’m trying to marry.”
“Marry? You haven’t even locked that down yet.”
“Working on it.”
Amelia still couldn’t wrap her head around it. This was the same guy who used to literally run the other way if a girl so much as looked at him. She smacked him on the head, hard. He shot her a look.
“Elias, did that hurt? Am I dreaming?”
“Get your drama over with and leave.”
Amelia turned and looked at Jax, who had followed her inside.
“Jax, come here.”
“Why?”
9:48 am Pppp.

Smack.
Jax stood there completely lost. “Mom, what was that for? I need this face for work. Can you take it easy? You’re messing up my money maker.”
“Okay, so definitely not a dream.”
“Uncle, seriously. Get her a doctor. A therapist.”
Amelia ignored him and pulled Jax closer. “Elias, I heard your girl grew up in a convent.”
“Amelia, I love her for exactly who she is. I don’t care where she came from or what her story is. And if anyone talks trash about her because of it, I’ll deal with them personally.”
“Relax. Anyone you love, I’ll treat like family.”
Elias gave her a look, and Amelia immediately made herself scarce.

The next day.
Shaw Estate.
Stella hadn’t expected Vincent to be standing outside waiting for her.
“Mr. Shaw.”
“Dr. Shaw, please come in.”
He gave her a warm smile that felt almost grandfatherly.
He kept looking at her the whole time–not subtle at all.
“Dr. Shaw, you’re very accomplished. Your parents must be incredibly proud.”
Frederick blinked. What was his grandfather doing?
Stella noticed him studying her. Did he suspect something too?
“They…”
She hesitated for just a second.
Frederick leaned in and whispered something to Vincent. His expression immediately shifted–pity, guilt, something in between.
“I apologize.”
Stella let it go. She’d been about to say more, but held back.
The hearing was tomorrow. Things were going to come out whether anyone was ready or not, and she

honestly wasn’t sure how Vincent would handle it.
“It’s fine.”
She steadied herself quickly.
I’d like to do a full physical today, Mr. Shaw, That includes drawing blood.”
“Then let’s do it.”
He rolled up his sleeve without hesitation.
Stella hadn’t expected it to be that easy.
Frederick didn’t question it either. Different doctors had their own methods.
‘So, Dr. Shaw, are you seeing anyone?”
Frederick’s stomach dropped. Here we go again.
‘Grandfather, she’s with Elías Cross.”
Vincent frowned, thinking for a second. “The Cross kid?”
Yeah, him.”
didn’t correct him.
