“What you’ve done is a serious violation of Miss Shaw’s reputation, and it’s damaged Azure Peak University’s name too. Miss Shaw hasn’t sued you yet, but you just keep pushing your luck.”
After Ethan spoke, Ruby pulled Jasmine aside, forcing a smile. She opened her mouth to apologize, but when she saw Stella’s face, the words got stuck in her throat.
“Miss Shaw,” she said through gritted teeth.
“Hello,” Stella replied politely, smiling.
“Jasmine was being childish. Please don’t hold it against her. I’ll make sure she writes the apology letter. I’m sorry for the trouble,” Ruby said, seething inwardly. Derek had warned her: Jasmine couldn’t get expelled, or her marriage with Silas would fall through. They’d worked so hard to get her into Azure Peak University -she couldn’t throw it all away now.
Jasmine glared at Ruby, indignant.
Couldn’t she see Stella was deliberately making things hard for us? 10,000 words? That’s torture!
“Three 10,000–word apology letters. You’ll read them aloud at the student assembly next Monday,” Stella added.
“Three?” Ruby’s jaw tightened.
Jasmine’s face turned ashen. She clenched her dress so hard it wrinkled, staring daggers at Stella–dying to scream or hit her, but too scared to act.
“I’m not the only victim,” Stella explained calmly. “Mr. Pierce, his wife, and I all deserve apologies.”
“Very well. We’re sorry for the trouble,” Ruby said, fists clenched.
Just you wait. Once we marry you off to Marcus, I’ll make you pay for this.
“Silas, do you have any objections?” Stella asked.
Silas snapped out of his daze. He’d been too busy staring at Stella’s stunning face to listen. “No objections.” he mumbled.
“Then go home and start writing,” Stella said.
Jasmine stormed off, desperate to leave. Ruby forced another smile at Ethan and his wife before following
her.
Elaine was still in shock, staring at Stella.
“Mrs. Thorne, do you need something else?” Stella asked.
Elaine opened her mouth to speak, but Silas quickly pulled her away. This wasn’t the place to argue.
“Goodbye,” he said, unable to bring himself to call her “Miss Shaw.”

Just then, Stella’s phone buzzed with a text. She smiled–Tess had been bored with her usual tasks, and Stella was happy to give her some entertainment.
“I’ll take my leave now,” she said.
Once Stella was gone, everyone exhaled in relief. Julian practically worshipped her–no one dared cross her.
As Jasmine and Silas reached the first–floor playground, a crowd of students surrounded them, shouting accusations. For once, neither of them could think of a comeback.
Elaine had never been so humiliated. She shot a glare at Jasmine and Ruby–if they hadn’t insisted Stella was uneducated, none of this would have happened!
“Let’s go before we get yelled at more,” she snapped, abandoning all pretense of dignity.
“Wait a minute.”
Ruby’s heart sank at the sound of Stella’s voice. She knew nothing good could come of this.
“Miss Shaw!” the students greeted her enthusiastically.
“Hello, everyone,” Stella replied, walking over to Elaine and Silas.
Jasmine instinctively clung to Silas‘ arm, glaring defiantly at Stella–though Stella ignored her completely.
“Miss Shaw, what is it?” Elaine asked, struggling to keep her composure. Calling her “Miss Shaw” made her sick to her stomach.
“I have some unfinished business with your families. Let’s resolve it today,” Stella said.
“The engagement’s over. What more do you want?” Jasmine demanded, tightening her grip on Silas. She was terrified the Thornes would change their minds and take Stella back.
“Shall we talk in my office?” Stella suggested.
“No. Say it here,” Jasmine said, voice trembling. With so many people watching, if Stella tried to steal Silas, Jasmine would start a live stream and accuse her of being an unfit teacher who stole other people’s boyfriends.
Stella smiled–she’d known the fool would say that.
“Miss Shaw, just say it here!”
Ruby chimed in, equally anxious. She was terrified of losing the wealthy match she’d worked so hard to lock down for Jasmine.
“Very well. Let’s have everyone here as witnesses,” Stella said.
The students stared at her in admiration, eager to help–though a few just wanted to watch the drama.
“I don’t like owing people anything. When I ended the engagement with Arthur, I thought we were done.

But…”
Stella paused, smiling faintly. Her calm gaze made Ruby’s blood run cold.

“Mrs. Harlow once tried to get me to break off the engagement. As ‘compensation,‘ she donated 100 clay tiles to the convent in my name. Now that the engagement’s over, we should be completely even. I don’t want to take anything that isn’t mine, so I’ve asked a friend to return those 100 tiles to you. Please check and make sure they’re all there.”
The students burst out laughing. They’d seen the live stream and knew about the “100 tiles” insult. Now Stella was giving them back–it was brilliant.
Ruby, Elaine, Jasmine, and Silas turned bright red with embarrassment.
“Here they are. 100 tiles! Count them if you want!” Tess called, pushing a small cart piled high with tiles over to them.
“No way. How could they be so cheap?” a student gasped.
“Does this mean Silas is only worth 100 tiles? That’s sad.”
“Miss Shaw has such integrity. She won’t take even 100 tiles that aren’t hers.”
“They act so generous, but this is how they treat their savior’s daughter! Saving a snake would be better than saving Silas.”
“Ending the engagement is fine–but sending the homewrecker’s mom to do it? What a disgrace!”
The whispers and stares were unbearable.
Stella smiled sweetly, “All 100 tiles are here. I don’t owe you anything now.”
“Stella Shaw, you’re doing this on purpose!” Jasmine screamed, biting her lip until it bled.
“From now on, remember: I’ve returned everything. Don’t spread lies about me anymore,” Stella said coldly.
Silas turned pale. He’d never been so humiliated in his life.
