He walked to the window, staring at the endless stream of traffic below.

"Zachary," he said suddenly. "Do you think Sebastian is serious about Evelyn?"

"Huh?" Zachary was taken aback. "How should I know? But looking at how protective he was just now, it didn't look like he was just playing around."

Julian remained silent.

Zachary walked over and leaned against the window. "Julian, you aren't... actually interested in Evelyn, are you?"

"I'm not." Julian answered quickly, but then paused and added, "At least not right now."

"Not right now. What about later?"

"We'll cross that bridge when we get to it." Julian turned and walked back to the table. "Right now, the most important thing is handling the Lancasters."

Looking at his profile, Zachary abruptly dropped his playful demeanor. "Julian, are you sure you want to go through with this? The Lancaster family is, after all..."

"After all, what?" Julian whipped his head around, his eyes turning glacial. "After all, my blood relatives? After all, deeply rooted in the city?"

He let out a cold laugh. "Zachary, I haven't forgotten how they treated my mother. I haven't forgotten how Lawrence forced my father to his death."

Zachary went quiet.

Julian turned back to the window, his voice dropping low, every word slicing like a blade. "The Lancasters owe me, and I'm going to make them pay it back tenfold. If Evelyn doesn't want to get involved, that's fine. I will take my revenge myself."

"Alright." Zachary clapped him on the shoulder. "Since you've made up your mind, I'm with you. I'm just the black sheep of my family anyway; my old man only has eyes for my brother. Helping you run a few errands might prove I'm not totally useless."

Julian finally cracked a faint smile. "You never were."

"Damn straight!" Zachary lifted his chin proudly. "I hide my talents well. So, about Lyra... what's the next move?"

"We stick to the plan." Julian said. "She's already in with the Lancasters, and the pregnancy is public. Next up is the engagement party... that will be the perfect opportunity."

"Opportunity for what?" Zachary was curious.

Julian didn't answer, merely saying, "You'll see when the time comes."

He walked over to the table, staring at the empty space where the gift for Evelyn had sat just moments ago.
