Standing before her grandmother's memorial, Evelyn Sullivan held a single floral tribute. The fragrant scent drifted up, painting soft curves in the dim, amber light.

"Grandma," she said softly, "I'm leaving. I'm moving away to San Francisco."

In the photograph resting on the memorial, her grandmother wore an elegant dress, her hair pinned up neatly, wearing a gentle and affectionate smile. The picture had been taken on her sixtieth birthday, her eyes clear and the corners of her lips tilted upward.

Clutching the phone, Evelyn walked back out to the courtyard. The night breeze brushed against her face, carrying the slight chill of early summer.

"Grandpa," she said, "I want a divorce."

Finally, Arthur said, "Do it."

His voice was soft, but completely resolute.
