Chapter 129

ISIDORA

I thought it deep inside while winking at him, enjoying the tiny changes I had never noticed before on that expressionless face.

He coughed softly, trying to hide it, and he was the one who broke eye contact

Even with the muzzle back in place, I would have sworn he was smiling, and that pulled a smile from my lips too, one hid by taking a drink of water.

I wished he could eat with me, beside me, but I couldn’t tear down my proud Estingia façade.

Still, someday, I knew we would sit at the same table as equals.

“Rest. Tomorrow is a big day,” I told Efrain, standing once I was satisfied.

He stood too, wiping his mouth with the napkin.

“Lady Isidora, thank you. Thank you for everything, and please…” He fell silent, his fists tightening at his sides.

I knew very well that he was afraid I would betray him.

“When I give my word, I keep it. I only hope you don’t disappoint me.”

“I won’t. I’ll be your loyal partner until the end,” he assured me in a low voice.

I nodded because we couldn’t say much more with servants coming and going.

I left the dining room and went to my bedroom, asking for a cloak so I could go out. The few belongings we had were still at the inn, where our rooms remained rented.

“Blaze, get ready for the plan,” I whispered when I came out about ten minutes later, heading toward the mansion entrance.

As I walked down the long hallway leading to the hall, I saw the silhouette of the man waiting for me in the darkness.

“Lucio,” I said as soon as we stood face-to-face.

“Lady Isidora.” My title came out through his teeth, no matter how hard he tried to hide his annoyance.

“I’m waiting for you, as we agreed. I’m willing to show you my loyalty, but I don’t want him with us.”

I had expected him to confront me about his mother, but smart man that he was, he went straight for Blaze.

Of course. He wanted to take away my greatest advantage.

“He’s my slave. He goes wherever I go,” I said, lifting an eyebrow.

“Isidora, if you’re trying to make me jealous, then fine, I admit it, damn it! I don’t want that man getting between us.” He took a step forward, showing some balls even though it was obvious Blaze intimidated him.

The growl behind my back echoed through the dim hall, and Lucio’s Alpha reacted a little to the challenge too.

Even though I couldn’t sense it clearly, if Blaze intimidated even Alphas, then his wolf had to be an Alpha too, and a very powerful one.
