A Mysterious Journal

A Mysterious Journal

+SIDORA

I could almost hear a voice calling to me inside my head.

It felt as if a thread of energy were pulling me forward… no, not me.

My sword.

With everyone at the ball, nearly all the corridors in that enormous castle were empty.

I made my way through shadowed hallways and climbed a narrow, half-hidden staircase that led to a locked door.

I wrapped my hand around the rusted iron handle and pushed.

Nothing. It was locked tight.

Standing alone in that passage, staring at the oppressive little black door, the whole thing was starting to feel a little cree

I was about to give up when Sonya began vibrating harder. The blade was giving off so much heat that I could barely breathe.

“What’s wrong with you now?” I muttered, bringing her closer to the door.

The moment the blade struck the wooden handle, the door slowly creaked open, as if touched by some dark, unsettling magic.

Every hair on my body stood on end.

Still, I stepped into the dark room beyond it.

My pupils narrowed. Even without my wolf, I could make out the small reading room.

An old fireplace stood against one wall, with two large armchairs facing it. Several bookcases lined the others, all buried beneath a thick layer of dust.

I coughed when the disturbed particles swirled into the air.

Then the door slammed shut behind me, trapping me inside the abandoned room.

My heart pounded, but my curiosity was stronger.

I walked around the room and examined a few old papers scattered across a small desk.

Then I passed in front of the tall bookcases.

The dust and cobwebs covering them were so thick it was obvious no one had entered this place in years.

The room seemed completely unimportant.

But Sonya had a will of her own, and before long, she unlocked another secret for me.

The books didn’t tell me much.

I pulled out a few at random, but they were only romance novels and stories about werewolves and the realn.

Then a carving on one of the wooden supports caught my attention.

I ran my fingers over the indentation before looking at the pommel of my sword.

The unusual shape at the end of Sonya’s hilt matched the mark carved into the wood perfectly.

I trusted my instincts.

I’

The moment I pressed that part of Sonya into the bookcase, she vibrated violently, urging me to turn her as if she were the key to a treasure chest.

I heard a click.

Then a hidden mechanism groaned to life, slowly shifting the heavy bookcase aside.

I stepped back, alert, and hissed when Sonya’s red-hot blade brushed my skin and burned me

What the hell was happening here?

Flooked at the dark, claustrophobic passage that had opened in front of me, then back at the room I would be leaving

behind.

It was now or never

I had always been too curious for my own good, so I stepped into the secret passage and followed wherever the spirit of my sword was leading me.

A Mysterious Journal

The smell of damp stone, age, and stale air filled my nose at once, making me wrinkle it.

Worse, Thadn’t taken more than two steps when the passage sealed shut behind me. “Fuck…” I muttered, turning around and trying to force the door open.

Nothing.

I couldn’t find another indentation where Sonya might fit as a key.

There was only one thing left to do.

Keep going.

“Haven’t you ever heard that curiosity killed the cat? Damn it, Isidora

I huffed and continued forward.

The rocky passage twisted for a while, then opened into another small chamber after several minutes of cautious walkin

There was only a desk in the center of the room, with a chair behind it.

Some kind of skylight above them let in a faint, unnatural glow.

Every place I entered was stranger than the last.

My gaze traveled over the stone walls, which were covered with unusual tapestries.

The same beast appeared in every one of them… A Lycan.

I stopped in front of one tapestry in particular.

The creature stared straight ahead with red, predatory eyes, its jaws spread wide.

It was terrifying, and it wasn’t even real.

There was no doubt about it. This was him.

The mate of Sonya’s former owner.

The beast I’d seen during the trial to claim my weapon, the one connected to that pregnant blonde. There was so much mystery surrounding them, but something about that Lycan… felt familiar.

I finally walked over to the desk in the center of the room.

I sat in the padded chair, facing all those tapestries hanging from the walls.

I placed Sonya beside me and spent several minutes lost in thought until the sword rolled off the desk and struck the floo with a sound that made me jump.

I leaned down to pick her up and noticed a small cabinet beneath the desk, with a single drawer.

I pulled it open, expecting to find another lock.

There wasn’t one.

Inside lay a single book with a smooth leather cover.

Careful not to damage it, I opened the book and stared at the elegant handwriting on the first page. I

“Journal of Valezka Ashborne.”

The surname Ashborne immediately triggered something in my memory.

Hadn’t Blaze been called Ashborne in that beautiful dream where we were married and even had a baby girl?

Why would I invent a surname I had never heard before?

That whole fantasy was supposed to have been built from fragments of memory.

So if I hadn’t made it up… Where had it come from?

My curiosity was growing by the second.

I carefully turned several yellowed pages, though the journal had been preserved remarkably well.

I was almost certain now.

This journal had belonged to Sonya’s former owner.

The woman who had chased after that beast again and again, risking her life every time.

Just skimming the pages, I saw the word Lycan jump out at me several times,

I wanted to know it all.

A Mysterious Journal

I took it in one hand and Sonya in the other.

Then I examined the chamber more carefully.

It wasn’t large, and it seemed to have only one entrance… Or so I thought, until a faint breeze stirred one of the tapestries.

“Another passage?” I whispered.

I walked toward the enormous tapestry depicting a Lycan howling at the moon and pulled it aside.

There it was.

Another door, with an indentation shaped perfectly for Sonya’s hilt.

Obviously, only someone carrying this sword could gain access to this hidden study.

The door opened in front of me.

It was time to leave that mysterious place.

I glanced back one last time, making sure I hadn’t missed anything important, though something told me Sonya had guided

me there for one reason.

To find the journal of her former owner.

My gaze settled on the beast’s face one last time.

Why did those eyes look so much like Blaze’s whenever he lost control?

I could feel it.

I was close to uncovering his secrets, and I wouldn’t stop until I did.

But when I started down the narrow passage and was about to unlock the final bookcase blocking my way out, I heard a voice on the other side.

I froze.

“Are you certain about that information?” the Matriarch asked from beyond the hidden wall. “So she ended up falling in love with her slave?”

“Yes, Madam. Lady Marion confirmed it. She says she knows her former servant very well. She also saw them having sex in one of the hidden viewing alcoves overlooking the ballroom.”

My fist clenched with rage.

That nosy, voyeuristic bitch.

They were obviously talking about Blaze and me.

“Mmm… I see. Let’s return to the ball.” I heard footsteps moving dangerously close to where I stood.

I dared to lean forward and look through a narrow crack.

The Matriarch walked past with firm, measured steps.

But when she reached the exact spot in front of me… She stopped.

My heart lurched.

I was terrified she could hear how hard it was beating. I tried to hide my Estingia aya.

My scent.

Then I saw her turn her head…

And look directly at the place where I was spying on her.
