ISIDORA

Varka came out through the same tomb where we’d found the path to Vhaelor.

Now she was tracking Elessia’s scent…

Or rather, her blood.

I could feel the faint connection with her slowly fading.

“Her scent is that way!”

Varka roared, forcing her legs to move at an incredible speed, but somehow it still felt like we weren’t getting anywhere.

Suddenly, strong arms scooped us up mid-stride, lifting Varka off the ground as the thundering steps of a lycan shook the forest.

Vhaelor had shifted back into Soul, pushing every one of his abilities to the limit.

Within seconds, we reached a place where some of my belongings were scattered across the ground.

Wolf tracks had trampled them into the damp earth.

“That way, Soul! That way!” I shouted even though I knew he’d already caught her scent.

When we reached the top of the cliff overlooking the moat, my heart dropped.

Elessia’s blood was splattered all over the grass.

A massacre had happened here, but she was nowhere in sight.

Before I could even process it, Varka jumped from her mate’s arms and rushed to the edge of the cliff.

“No… No! ELESSIA!”

We roared when we saw her body below, almost being swept away by the black waters of the moat surrounding the island.

Varka threw herself down the rocky slope.

“Varka, wait!”

Vhaelor tried to stop her, but all we could see was Elessia’s pale, battered skin, the wounds that had torn through her dress, and the faint heartbeat slowly fading away.

We skidded down the slope, sending rocks tumbling around us, and landed near her among the stones and pebbles along the narrow shore.

Varka crept closer, almost afraid.

A broken whine left her as she reached for the connection with the little Omega, but there was nothing on the other side.

Only emptiness.

“Hold on, Ele… hold on, please. I’m begging you…”

Varka gently nudged her with her muzzle, licking the blood from her face, her chest tight as tears fell from her eyes.

“Who could’ve done something this cruel to you? How could they?!”

She roared, releasing a streak of red energy that cracked several nearby rocks.

Dangerous ripples spread across the moat.

“Don’t let your anger take over, Varka! Shift back now! We have to give her our power!” I shouted at her even though I was in agony too.

Suddenly, a huge shadow fell over us.

“I’ll do it… My blood can heal her. Let me get closer.”

Vhaelor’s deep voice rumbled nearby. He had come down the slope in a single leap.

But Varka didn’t want to leave Elessia’s side.

She felt as if we were going to lose her in the next second.

“Varka, trust your mate. Trust your King. I promise I’ll save her… Look at me. Look at me, little wolf.”

Soul’s enormous hand gently lifted her muzzle away from Elessia’s body.

“Trust me, Isidora. If you let me give her my blood… I’ll save her.”

Through the tears that wouldn’t stop falling, I nodded.

Now that he was my mate, he was asking my permission before giving his blood to another female.

“Do it! Do it now!”

Soul carefully rolled Elessia onto her back, and we straightened her broken body as best we could.

It looked like there wasn’t a single bone left intact. Her arms and legs had fallen at unnatural angles.

Oh, Goddess… save Elessia.

I shouldn’t have left her here alone. I shouldn’t have trusted the people in this place.

Under Varka’s watchful gaze, our mate crouched beside her and opened a vein in his wrist over Elessta’s lips

Varka carefully rested one paw against her chin, keeping her mouth open so the powerful drops of the Lycan King’s blood could heal her body.

Vhaelor stopped far too soon.

“Give her more blood! Don’t stop…!”

“She can’t drink too much. My blood is too strong. I only dared give it to a little Omega because she was already on the verge of death… Now lick it.”

Before Varka could question him again, Soul pressed his wounded wrist against her muzzle.

The intense scent of his blood would’ve been intoxicating if the situation hadn’t been so horrible.

Still, she licked her mate’s wound, refusing to waste a single drop of that powerful blood as it ran down our throat like lava and made every cell in our body vibrate.

But all our attention was on Elessia’s wounds and the way they were closing right before our eyes.

Especially the ones across her belly… How could anyone have been so cruel to her?

“I’ll find the ones responsible. You can be sure of that. I’ll find them.”

Vhaelor’s voice echoed through our mind, full of barely contained rage.

Varka had started growling again without me even realizing it.

His hand briefly stroked her muzzle before he carefully lifted Elessia into his arms.

Varka licked her small, cold, limp hand, but at least warmth was beginning to return to her skin.

Just thinking that if I’d gotten there an hour later… Her body would’ve been swallowed by those waters.

With one leap, Soul reached the top of the cliff.

He tried to help me, but Varka climbed up on her own.

“We can’t waste time. Something’s happening in your castle…”

“I know exactly what’s happening in the castle. And it’ll be over in a second.”

An angry growl slipped through his fangs as we started moving again.
