A New Estingia Queen

I shoved Cassian aside too.

His fangs came out, his wolf still close to the surface.

Someone had wrapped a piece of cloth around his waist like a skirt, but dried blood still crusted the wounds I’d given him.

“I don’t care if you’re the Queen… you’re not keeping me away from my mate. I would never do something like this to her!”

He roared and tried to get close to Elessia again, but I stepped in front of him, my aura crackling dangerously around me.

“Maybe you didn’t do it with your own hands, but you didn’t protect her either. And it’s obvious… someone wanted her out of the future King’s way, didn’t they?”

I narrowed my eyes at him, then looked at his mother.

The servants were huddled in a corner of the room, trembling and holding their breath.

“Lady Estingia, the palace was on the verge of an internal war. Do you really think we had time to plan something this vile? Cassian was defending the borders, and I was helping him. Everyone saw us…”

She explained it smoothly, almost like someone talking to a child throwing a tantrum.

A cold smile full of fangs spread across my lips as I fixed my murderous gaze on her.

She went pale and took a step back.

“I guess we’ll know everything once she wakes up… and for both your sakes, I hope I don’t have to rip your throats out.”

“Elessia is the priority right now. Stop threatening us like we’re heartless monsters.”

Cassian stepped in front of his mother, shielding her.

And on that, he was right.

Elessia was the priority.

“Prepare the medicine and the bath,” I ordered the servants. “And I want your mother out of this room… if you plan on staying.”

I warned him with my chin held high, staring straight into those stormy blue eyes.

I didn’t give a damn about protocol anymore.

I had just walked through fire and death to earn my place as their future Queen, whether I wanted the position or not.

As if my King were driving that point home himself, a deafening roar shook the castle walls.

The servants screamed and dropped to their knees. That Mira woman covered her ears, and Cassian was forced to lower his head.

It was a crushing wave of power, a challenge to anyone who dared lay claim to the throne.

A clear message… The Lycan King was back.

And this time… for good.

Any greed in the hearts of these two would die here and now.

“GET OUT OF HERE, ISIDORA! I’M BEGGING YOU! RUN! RUN!”

Through the storm raging inside my mind, I saw her one last time, running toward me as if everything had slowed down.

Soul’s roars couldn’t make her stop in the middle of all that madness.

Even after every horrible thing I’d done to her, my worst fear was coming true.

Without the slightest fear of death, she threw herself into our arms, choosing to die with me so I wouldn’t die

alone.

I’d always known she wouldn’t give up.

Because I would’ve done exactly the same thing if our places had been reversed.

Isidora is the most sacred thing in my life.

More than my throne.

More than any power.

And now I wanted to live for her.

I wanted to give her everything and make sure she never suffered again.

What happened to Elessia showed me just how rotten things had become in my territory while I simply hadn’t cared enough to fix them.

But the moment we reached those walls, Soul swept in like an unstoppable storm.

He launched himself from one of the towers along the wall and landed with a heavy crash in the middle of the battle, bringing the fighting to a dead stop.

His jaws opened, and a roar shook the battlefield as we unleashed all our rage without mercy.

Soon, I had them at my feet, reminding them what the weight of my bloodline felt like.

I’d spent too long letting them do whatever they wanted.

And even though I’d placed Cassian on the throne as Regent, it seemed my old orders meant nothing

anymore.

“Your Majesty, we thought you were dead!”

“Forgive us, Your Majesty! Forgive this offense!”

Pleas came from every direction.

The weaker ones shifted into wolf form just to protect themselves from the sheer violence of my aura.

“Every one of you will answer for this in my court. You’ll pay for the damage to the walls and the bridge. Now gather your damn armies and get back to your territories before I crush you right here!”

It took them less time to get off my island than it had taken them to plan their attack the second they felt the bond break.

They’d been so caught up in their little conquest that they hadn’t even sensed my return.

I looked at the royal army, made up of powerful Estingias along with the new candidates.

At least some of them had backed Cassian, though it was obvious others had sided with the Alphas fighting for the throne.

“Your Majesty, thank the Goddess it was all a false alarm. It’s been a long time since we last saw you.”

I recognized one of the oldest members of the guard as they bowed their heads respectfully.

The Estingias only appeared when things were serious.

Soul’s heavy steps carried us closer to them.

“Well, you’ll be seeing plenty of me from now on. And I want the head of every Estingia who betrayed the Regent I appointed. Find them and bring them before me.”

I saw several of them turn pale, but I didn’t care how they dealt with it.

“It will be done as you command, Your Majesty. And the new candidates….?”

“I don’t want them in the palace. Send them back to their pack and take a message from me to the new
