I took a step back, paralyzed by the brutality in front of me.

The man didn’t even get a chance to defend himself against the huge male who had launched himself off my balcony.

With the very same chains he’d ripped from the stone wall, he looped them around his neck, and as he drove him to the ground, I saw him pull so hard the veins in his arms throbbed with the strain of his muscles.

I clapped a hand over my mouth as that slave was strangled right in front of me.

The man kicked and jerked, choking out muffled sounds as he fought for his life.

My eyes locked straight on Blaze’s feral expression, twisted completely by pure rage and bloodlust.

His fangs jutted out, sharp and huge, between furious snarls.

“Get your hands off my slave, you damn savage!”

Arlene’s scream snapped me out of it, and I saw her charge at him.

Her whole body was cloaked in that dark mist of Estingia power as she summoned some kind of black sword forged from her own magic.

She rushed at Blaze’s back, trying to strike him from behind, but I wasn’t going to let her.

Without hesitating for a second, I threw myself between them, raising my hands to stop the thrust of that sharpened blade.

verything seemed to slow as I watched the sword come down on my clasped hands, and I knew the pain was coming, knew the wound would be deep.

Even so, this was between her and me.

Her eyes flashed into mine.

“Move, you fat bitch!” she roared, and I roared back as a red mist burst out around my hands.

The sword hit hard with a metallic clang, like it had slammed into the toughest steel.

I felt the blow rip through every muscle in my body, shaking me, but I didn’t step back, no matter how shocked I was.

It was as if my power had wrapped me in armor against her Estingia magic.

Black and red clashed in the air through mist and sparks.

Arlene stumbled back a step, staring at me with hatred and shock, but it quickly twisted back into rage.
