Chapter 32
ISIDORA

They’ve got it out for you. They’re jealous because you went from servant to Estingia….”
“Calm down, Ele. I’m going to fix it. Use what medicine I’ve got left….”
I gently eased her back toward the little bed in her cramped squire’s quarters.
“No, it’s not fair….”
She grabbed my hand, her eyes red and shining with unshed tears. Rage made her hands shake so badly she couldn’t hold still.
“Who said there was any justice here?” I twisted my mouth, giving her a resigned look.
“They saw he was cooperating. He only did it to save you. How can they say you don’t have him under control? If Blaze had wanted to rebel, he would’ve crushed them right there. Did you see how feral he got in a second?”
And yes, I had seen it. Me and everyone else.
Blaze was far too dangerous.
The worst part was the cold calm he always wore, as if he were sizing each of us up and just waiting for the right moment to take your head off.
I swallowed and lifted a hand to my neck.
“But Dora….” Elessia suddenly caught my hand, worry all over her face.
“Wouldn’t this be the perfect chance to get rid of someone that dangerous? He broke loose…. He got out of those chains on his own…. are you really going to sleep next to someone like that?”
“If he wanted to kill me, I think he would’ve done it already,” I told her, thinking of the two nights I’d slept beside him.
Blaze was a complete mystery to me.
A lot of the time, I was afraid of him, but deep down, my instincts kept screaming that he didn’t want to hurt me.
“Oh, Goddess, why couldn’t you have gotten one of those normal men….”
Elessia dropped back against the pillows dramatically, pressing a hand to her forehead.
I sighed as I looked at the wounds I’d helped bandage, then gave her the medicine I still hadn’t paid for.
“The strangest things aren’t always bad,” I told her with a small smile.
“If he keeps cooperating with me, it’s because he has goals of his own too. He gets free food and a roof over his head here. He sees I don’t treat him badly. Maybe he decided to lie low for a while….”
That was the excuse I gave myself for Blaze’s choices.
Obviously, if he’d wanted to escape, he would’ve tried already.
“But Dora…. that whole part where you have to have sex with him…. are you sure you can do it? I know I’m always joking around, but this time I’m really worried. I mean… that man looks rough. Brutal. I’m scared he’ll hurt you….”

I frowned, not wanting to tell her how nervous I really was.
“Don’t worry. This isn’t just about Blaze. It’s about us too. I need to anchor my power here, or they’ll keep coming after us. I said, clenching my fists in determination.
“I’m leaving. Lock the door so nobody bothers you, and Elessia….” I paused, my face turning serious.
“I’ll do whatever it takes to take sure they never walk all over us again.”
I wasn’t just saying it. I meant it. I was truly willing to do anything, even face something that could still hurt me deeply.
As I left Elessia’s room and walked back toward mine to get ready, I thought about everything that ceremony involved.
I stepped into my room and went straight to the bathroom to wash myself thoroughly, then changed into the clothes they’d left on the bed.
