ISIDORA
Before going into the Greenhouse, I looked toward the little house in the distance.
Smoke was already curling out of the chimney. I thought I saw a few shadows moving inside, but nobody came out, and I didn’t go bother them.
“Come on…”
With extra help, and after explaining everything to Blaze, things moved insanely fast.
In fact, at first, when I showed him the work the old woman had assigned me, he frowned and let out a low growl. I thought maybe the manure mix disgusted him.
But when I reached for the shovel, he wouldn’t let me. Actually… the only thing he let me do was crush a few herbs in the
mortar.
I watched in excitement as the mixing chamber filled again and again. Having help was basically cheating!
“Turn it, Blaze!” I shouted it again for the third time, hearing him turn the crank and set the whole mechanism rumbling until a greenish-brown paste poured out of a pipe on this side and filled my raised bed.

“My lady, I’m sweaty and I stink… I don’t want to get you dirty,” his low voice rumbled, snapping me out of whatever spell his gaze had me under.
I became aware of the sweat slicking my palms where my hands were wrapped around his strong arms.
The simple dress I’d put on that morning was sticking to my breasts from his sweat and mine, the sun beating down through the glass above us.
“I’m sor…” I was about to apologize and step back, but Blaze’s whole body tensed at once as he looked toward the back door.
Before I could react, his huge body moved protectively in front of mine.
Then I heard firm footsteps, and they definitely didn’t belong to that frail old woman.
A moment later, someone stepped into the inner courtyard.
I leaned out to look and saw a man appear.
Tall, built more with lean, wiry muscle than bulk, with black hair and bronzed skin. His exotic blue eyes settled on Blaze
