Chapter 51
ISIDORA
I turned back to Madam, nodding as I listened to the rest.”

The longer she talked, the deeper my frown got. I remembered seeing easier missions than this in the common hall.
But the rewards were tempting… And so was the danger.
In the end, I accepted, all while feeling Blaze’s piercing stare drilling into the back of my neck.
“All right. With your permission, I’ll leave tomorrow and try to return as quickly as possible,” I said, standing and picking up the little pouch, which felt surprisingly heavy in my hand.
I barely touched my breakfast with so much “information” to digest.
The words “Thank you for the opportunity” got stuck in my throat as I looked at the old woman’s bandaged face through the drifting smoke.
I simply nodded and turned to leave, but her voice stopped me before I reached the hallway.
“I heard you were given permission to choose an Estingia Weapon… My advice is not to rush it. Wait until you return from this mission.”
I didn’t understand her advice, but I decided to follow it.
“I will,” I said at last, walking away with Blaze’s footsteps trailing behind me.
We left the Greenhouse in silence. I wasn’t going back to work today. The hunt came first now.
But there were still things turning over in my head.
I couldn’t help stopping in the woods outside the Greenhouse and turning to face Blaze.
“Don’t do that again…” I said, annoyed, and he stopped short, forcing me to crane my neck to look up at him.
“I know you want to help. It must be hard having a mistress poorer than a sewer rat, but life matters more than anything, got it? Don’t make decisions like that again, and definitely don’t speak for me…”
I was scolding him. Or at least, that had been the plan. With my “tough” attitude.
I stood there, one hand on my hip and the other raised in front of his face, doing my best to look intimidating, but he didn’t look impressed in the slightest. If anything, the intensity in those golden eyes turned darker… more tempting.
“Blaze, I mean it!” I tried to sound firm, only to step back when he moved forward.
One step. Then another. Then another…
My heart started pounding as I backed up until a tree pressed against my spine.
