Chapter 53

ISIDORA

It turned out to be that black-haired woman with the tough edge: Lady Karla. One of the two novice Estingias who’d talked to me during the Ceremony with Blaze.

“Goddess, how clumsy…”

“No surprise, with a body like that…” A few whispers stirred around me, followed by nasty little laughs. I took a step back. pulling away from Karla’s arms, my face burning with embarrassment.

“Are you alright, Lady Isidora?” she asked, shooting the others a cold look.

“Y-yes, yes, tha…” I stopped myself and just gave her a nod instead. “Lady Karla.”

“Oh, Goddess, those steps are dangerous. I almost fell the other day too!” the more cheerful voice of the smaller blonde chimed in from the spot beside us.

I turned even redder, but the look I gave her said “thank you” for trying to cushion my humiliation. Neither of them seemed like bad people.

Then my eyes went to Morgan, who was looking at me with pure contempt. I know she was the one who stuck her foot out. I don’t know why she and Arlene hate me so much.

“Well, if everything’s fine, let’s not waste any more time. Lady Isidora, come here.”

The instructor’s words got everything moving again, and I walked down the rest of the steps until I reached her.

I held out my hand and took the little vial, cold against my fingers. With another nod, the one I’d started using in place of saying “thank you”, I meant to step away, but the warrior in charge stopped me again.

“I’d also like to take this moment to announce that Lady Isidora is the only one who has managed to make her Estingia seal bloom, and she has earned the right to choose her special weapon.”

Even I was surprised she’d brought up my ceremony in front of everyone, but while I saw it as something intimate and a little embarrassing, the Estingias saw it as a step closer to power.

Every pair of eyes widened as they looked at me differently now. The disbelief on their faces was impossible to miss.

“We saw it, and it was incredible. The threads of her power spread across the floor, up the walls, even over the ceiling. Her aura was… whew… seriously powerful…” Mikaela said with a smile, glancing at me.

I gave her a small smile back, my cheeks still burning, being the center of positive attention for once.

“So learn from Lady Isidora. At this rate, she’ll probably rise to New Moon Estingia in the next promotion battle.” Only after saying that did the instructor finally let me go.

As I walked back to my place, I caught the dark looks on Arlene’s and Morgan’s faces.
