Chapter 66

BLAZE

“Blaze, let me go…” she said, her voice sharp, her whole body stiff.

“No,” I pressing closer to her back, feeling the curve of her ass against my fly. “I wasn’t trying to make fun of you. I’m a brute who doesn’t know how to make my lady laugh… I was only teasing you a little. Forgive your slave, will you?”

My nose brushed her neck, and I brought my mouth up to her ear. I felt the shiver move through her body, felt the delicious way her pheromones stirred, the way goose bumps rose all over her skin.

“I’ll think about it. Now let me go…” Her voice thinned into a weak whisper between the breaths she was trying to hold back.

“Let me apologize properly,” I added when Soul caught the sound of water nearby.

I remembered hunting in this area before and finding a small river.

“How… how are you planning to apologize?” Her voice was barely there, and a victorious smile curved my mouth.

I lifted one hand and moved aside the thick braid she wore, leaving the back of her neck exposed.

My pupils locked greedily on the place where she should’ve worn my mark.

But Estingia women didn’t let themselves be marked that easily. And besides… I would never bind her to me with a bond that was meant to break in the most painful way.

“Come with me. I’ll take you somewhere,” I whispered, lowering my head to kiss that spot where I was dying to press my mark into her skin and claim her.

I shoved down the deep pain that never left my chest, especially not now that I had met her.

Before, I had already made peace with it. I wasn’t leaving behind anything that truly mattered.

But now…

“Come on, my lady. Come with me…”

I pushed my ghosts aside and took her hand, turning her toward me. Her eyes were still trying to look fierce, but I knew damn well she had already forgiven me.

I led her with me, making sure not to forget the prey that had gotten me into trouble in the first place.

Even though I looked relaxed, every one of my senses stayed alert. They weren’t as sharp as before. As my time kept running out, Soul kept losing more of his abilities. Still, he was no ordinary wolf.

As the last living lycan, his power was still that of an apex predator. Otherwise, I never would’ve brought my mate into this

forest.

“Here it is, my lady… Don’t you feel like cooling off a little?” I asked, watching her face light up when she saw the shallow river and its clear water.

“Well… maybe I can forgive you.”

“I can keep apologizing,” I murmured, trampling down the brush to scare off any snakes and clear the riverbank.
