The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 496

Nash's hand, holding his teacup, paused. The amber liquid rippled gently against the white porcelain.

He took a slow, deliberate sip. "That’s ancient history. I’m not sure why you’re bringing it up, Franco."

"No one treats someone that well for no reason. I investigate everyone who gets close to Petty. I assume you don't mind, Professor Nash?" Franco tapped his fingertips against the wooden tea table.

"Not at all. It's your way of protecting her, after all. Keeping her safe is a good thing."

Nash glanced at the man sitting across from him. "At first, I looked out for her because of her mother. But she truly became one of my brightest students."

When he mentioned Petty, a hint of genuine admiration shone in his eyes.

"You have an impressive capacity for forgiveness, Professor. Not only tolerating the child the woman you loved had with another man, but going out of your way to care for her." A faint, almost imperceptible smirk curved Franco's lips.

It looked like a smile, but held a sharp edge of mockery.

Nash's expression remained perfectly calm. He chuckled gently. "When you reach my age, those things stop mattering. Besides, her parents have been dead for years. It would be entirely unreasonable for me to take my lingering regrets out on her."

Franco just smiled, saying nothing.

"I asked you here today simply to give you a warning," Franco said smoothly. "I have no issue with you being kind to Petty. But you need to stop trying to help her leave Cabinda. I let the overseas correspondent application for Everell slide for her sake. But if there’s a next time, I won't be so forgiving."

Down in the teahouse parking lot, Galen hadn't bothered going upstairs. He waited in the car until he spotted Franco walking out of the building. The door unlocked, and Franco slid into the back seat.

Galen studied his friend’s expression for a quiet moment before speaking. "Why did you want to see Nash? Were you threatening people again?"

"Half warning, half fishing," Franco replied, his tone flat.

He looked through the windshield, his gaze fixed on the distance where Nash was getting into a vehicle arranged by Jay.

"Stop being so damn cryptic and spell it out!" Galen rolled his eyes.
