The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 522

The hospital room lights flicked on, flooding the space with stark brightness.

Hans sprinted out of the adjoining bedroom completely barefoot. He had deliberately left his door wide open so he could hear even the slightest sound from Petty's room.

The moment her terrified scream tore through the silence, he had vaulted out of bed.

He rushed to her side, sitting on the edge of the mattress and grabbing her shoulders, his chest heaving as his panicked eyes swept over her.

"Did you have a nightmare? It's okay, don't be afraid. I'm right here."

Petty looked up at him, her eyes brimming with tears, her voice cracking with absolute despair. "I dreamed about my baby. Hans, I dreamed about him. I want to see my baby, I want my baby!"

Seeing her in such a state of sheer terror, he didn't even need to ask what the nightmare was about.

Hans slid one hand up from her shoulder to cradle the back of her head, murmuring soothingly, "Don't be scared, it was just a dream. Nightmares are always the exact opposite of reality. Abacus is perfectly fine. Even if you don't trust Franco, you have to trust your son. He's so brave, and he knows you're waiting for him."

He had fully anticipated that she wouldn't be able to handle the grueling three-day wait.

They had already made it through two days. If everything went according to plan, they would likely see Abacus tomorrow.

"I was holding him in my arms, and then he just vanished..." Petty sobbed, her face draining of whatever color it had left. "He was right there in my arms, why did he disappear? Where did he go..."

She was spiraling into complete hysteria. The physical toll of her illness, combined with the visceral horror of the nightmare, made it impossible for her to process a single word of comfort. She wasn't just on the verge of a breakdown; her psychological defenses had completely and utterly shattered.

The door to the room suddenly pushed open. Franco strode in.

He had been working on documents in his own room. The second Petty's lights had flipped on, Jay had alerted him. The moment he stepped through the door, he saw Petty clinging to Hans, sobbing uncontrollably, completely broken.

"I've got her."

Hans despised Franco, but he wasn't stupid. There was no one better equipped to handle this specific situation, especially since Franco had brought his medical team in tow. He had to step back.

"Petty, it's me," Franco said, his voice a low, steady anchor.

Petty froze for a fraction of a second, her tears spilling over and hitting the back of Franco's hand. She was trembling violently. "I want to see my baby. Please, please just take me to him."

The man moved with agonizing gentleness, wiping the tears from her cheeks. "I know you miss him. You've been so incredibly strong these past two days, and I know how hard it is. But right now, he's probably sleeping. If we go in there, we might wake him up. Let's ask Dr. Howell first, okay?"
