Galen parked his car in the lot at the Cabinda Institute of Pharmacology. Every year, he poured millions of dollars in research funding into the institute, and the Carter family stood as the undisputed powerhouse of the nation's biotechnology sector. With their wealth and status, he breezed through the facility like he owned the place.
After parking, he opened the back door and unbuckled Abacus's car seat. "Come on, Gale is taking you to see a fairy."
Abacus's huge, round eyes darted left and right, brimming with boundless curiosity about the outside world. He had no idea what a 'fairy' was, nor did he care. He just chewed happily on his teething toy, taking in the sights like a true tourist.
Galen scooped the toddler into his arms and slammed the car door shut, casually leaving it unlocked.
It didn't take long for the news of him bringing a baby to the institute to reach Livia. The laboratory doors slid open, and a young woman in a white coat approached. "Dr. Carter, Mr. Carter asked me to let you know he's waiting in your office."
She was secretly puzzled. Galen was Livia's brother; why didn't he just call or text her directly instead of passing on messages?
The truth was, Livia had blocked Galen's phone number and his socials. He certainly had other ways to reach her, but having someone deliver the message was far more entertaining. This way, even if Livia didn't want to see him, the curious stares from her colleagues would force her hand.
When it came to manipulating Livia, Galen had an endless arsenal of tricks.
Livia pushed open her office door, only to find Galen wiping the face of a breathtakingly cute baby. After finishing with the child's face, he patiently wiped his little hands with a handkerchief, his tone gentle, yet the words coming out of his mouth were utterly inappropriate.
"Aesthetics are learned by exposure, kid. Look right here. When you grow up, this is the standard you're looking for in a wife, understand?"
His finger tapped against a staff ID badge on her desk, which featured Livia's new photo from last year.
The way he phrased it was deliberately suggestive.
Galen finished his sentence just as he heard the door open. He turned, meeting Livia's cold, detached gaze, and raised an eyebrow. Oh, so she had heard his little speech to Abacus.
