Before long, autumn arrived. Accompanied by her therapist and Hans, Petty traveled to the East African Great Rift Valley, Mount Kilimanjaro, and the Alps.
Her physical health was slowly recovering, and experiencing different cultures on her journey had significantly improved her condition.
Although there were still moments when she spaced out, cried without warning, or suffered physical symptoms of her trauma, she hadn't self-harmed once in the past three months.
For Petty, this was a massive victory. It meant she was getting better.
Hans planned to take her to the Andes Mountains in South America next, hoping the vast landscapes would embrace her and wash away the years of accumulated pain.
Just after picking up her medication from a follow-up appointment, she was about to get into the car when a familiar figure in the distance made her freeze.
"What's wrong?" Hans followed her gaze. There were only a few pedestrians and some towering trees over there; he had no idea what had caught her attention.
Petty snapped out of her daze and turned to him. "I think I just saw Livia. Give me a second."
Livia?
Hans searched his memory. Wasn't that Galen's sister?
He hadn't expected them to run into an acquaintance halfway across the globe.
He had never really interacted with Livia, so he wasn't familiar with her, but as Petty hurried over and stopped in front of a woman, he took a closer look. It really was her.
"Livia!"
At first, Petty thought she was mistaken because Livia had cut her hair to shoulder length—a drastic departure from her usual style.
Unsure if she had the right person, but seeing the woman about to get into a car, she quickly called out her name.
The woman paused by the car door and turned around.
"Petty?"
