The Lingering Kiss of Farewell novel Chapter 146

Marilyn

She watched as the twins saw their grandparents off and hugged them goodbye, in the apartment doorway, and got hugged by Kay herself and the woman stated openly, Give him hell, he deserves it for divorcing you?

She also saw Calvin’s frown at his mother’s words, but he said nothing, and then they were gone. He looked at her and the twins, Alright, let’s go and put our things in the car and head out to Cliffside. The boys had run off to get their backpacks, and he’d stated, I’ll grab your bag Marilyn, just wait there.”

She was kind of just staring at him. She’d barely been allowed to do anything this morning. He’d cooked breakfast and he and his mother had cleaned up. Both had refused her offer to help, she’d been made to stay seated on the lounge.

The boys were happy they’d all be travelling in the one car today and had stood and looked at Calvin’s lineup

of cars. He’d opted for them to travel in the Bentley. That had made the boys happy. It had been the first car they’d seen of his, but he’d also left in it and come back in the Audi. Now they could see that he also owned a

Jaguar and a Mercedes as well.

Which is your favourite?the boys had asked Calvin.

The Bentley. He’d smiled at them, and they’d gotten in the car for him to drive them out to Cliffside. Both

boys seemed to like the car as well and were opening all the things back there. Mum there’s a tiny fridge

back here with water in it.”

I’m aware.” She nodded, and she was. It was still the same car he’d had when they’d been married. He’d

bought it halfway through their marriage, and she’d gotten to go for a drive in it along the coast as Calvin

took it on its maiden voyageas he’d called it. She recalled him grinning stupidly happy about owning a

Bentley.

You’ve been in this car before?she was asked right back by Vincent.

Yes, he’s had it a long time. She nodded. He’d maintained it well over the years.

The boys were talking pretty much nonstop the entire way out to the estate, about anything that they found back there or whatever popped into their minds, and she saw Calvin smile a few times, and she asked him

what made him happy.

He’d smiled right at her, My family in my car. He’d stated simply, It’s really nice to have the boys just be so

comfortable and happy back thereYou in the passenger seat. He’d added.

She just nodded, she’d not really responded to his statement this morning, that he’d told her he loved her and wanted marriage and children. She didn’t really know what to say to it if she was honest with herself.

She’d loved him once and was she knew still attracted to the man, but they were, as she’d said, different

people now. Though he’d stated, he was the same, that his life was the same and hers was the one that was

different.

She didn’t know if he was still the same person, not after what she’d seen in him, though then she ar with herself internally even as she thought that, because he had just been trying to get her to admit she was Marrin; which she actually was. He’d known it and wanted to prove it, was all. As aggressive as he’d been

about it, a part of her could understand him because he still loved Marrin.

She sighed to herself as she looked out the window. She wasn’t that person anymore. Marilyn?Calvin asked her at her sigh. At least he didn’t get her name wrong anymore.

Nothing, she stated. He’d also said he wanted them to get to know each other again, but could they? Should they? How was that going to work if she opted to give him another chance? She’d been Marrin, who was now his dead or missing wife, and she was known to the world as Marilyn Riddley now, yet if she agreed, how was that going to look after all that happened? It was a lot to think about, and she knew it.

They arrived without issue, and she saw the boys run off around the side of the house heading for the guesthouse. Marilyn, perhaps you and the boys should move into the manor now.” Calvin stated as he

handed her the crutches.

Why?she asked.

Because it’s your house,” he commented.

No, it’s not. You paid me out for it.she stated, So it’s your house now, Calvin.

Hmm, you say that, but I never once saw it as my house, and I can only imagine you walked through the entire house upon arrival, yes?he asked.

Yes.She nodded. I showed the boys around.”

Then you saw the master bedroom. It’s still your house. I never changed anything, left it for when you came

home,he told her.

She stopped walking and looked at him at his words and asked the question she’d thought about when walking through that bedroom after getting here, And if I had died, or you never came across me and I never remember who I was, what then?she frowned at him. Were you just going to leave it there like that for the

rest of your life?

Yes,he stated with a nod. It’s your house, and it would have been the house we’d have lived in as a family, or that was my plan anyway,he stated as he walked along beside her. You loved it here, and I have a lot of good and fun memories here. Cliffside was where I planned for us to live and raise a family,he told her, So, I think you and the boys should move into the house. They can have whatever rooms they want.”

Oh, and just where will you, or I be staying?she muttered already knew what he was thinking. He’d implied

that back at his apartment. With the words naughty, and fun. She heard him chuckle even now.

Where ever you want me to be.He smiled right at her.

I’ve not agreed to anything you stated you want. She murmured.

No, you didn’t but. It’s a nice thought, isn’t it? us back together, you and I sleeping in the same bed, and our boys just down the hall. A real family. I know you wanted that once. I wanted it. Now we can have it,” he told

her simply, as if everything was just going to fall into place and be all hunkydory.

Calvin, you do understand that it’s not going to be just like that, don’t you?she frowned at him.

Hmm, but it could be, we’re both adults. The boys would also love it, I’m certain of that.he was still smiling at her. So why can’t we choose to just be together once more, I honestly don’t see why we can’t do that, it’s

simply a choice is all.

We’re divorced Calvin, is why.She muttered.

C CH 146

Not for the reasons everyone else out there is,” he murmured. There are also people out there that work through their issues and get remarried. We could just be that. I could google it and tell you how many if you like.He stated, and she turned and looked at him a little on the exasperated side, only to see him doing just

that.

Ah, look, it’s 15%he turned his phone to her, a smile on his face.

She rolled her eyes as she looked at the numbers 10 to 15% reconcile. She pointed out what he’d opted to ignore. 6% get remarried. You take liberties with the numbers.”

He laughed. Hmm, I’m trying to sway you, so, of course I will,he nodded. It’s not like others haven’t done it before us, it’s not so uncommon a thing that it never happens either.

Right.she shook her head as she came to the guesthouse. Are you going to be like this all the time now? Because I have my memories back.
