Chapter 3
The rain outside was getting heavier, thunder rumbled, and lightning split the darkness.
Caden was soaked, water dripping from his hair, but he seemed not to care.
He just smiled and handed me an exquisitely wrapped jewelry box.
“Look, I picked out your birthday gift specially for you.”
“Stop being childish. Everyone’s still waiting for you to come back. And don’t talk about breaking up so
casually, okay?”
I looked down at the box. The diamond bracelet inside looked strangely familiar.
Selene was wearing a necklace today. It seemed to be from the same brand.
I didn’t take it, maintaining a calm distance.
Caden’s arm hung in the air, then stiffly dropped to his side.
After a long moment, he finally lowered his numb arm, his face full of impatience. “What’s gotten into you
today?”
“You were practically crying tears of jo

My chest felt tight. I didn’t even want to look at him.
I used to be lost in a beautiful fantasy, thinking I was the only one in his heart, that he’d reject his fated mate for me, that we’d go to the same university, get engaged, married, have a family after graduation.
But today, every cruel word shattered that illusion.
I finally understood. He never loved me. To him, my only purpose was being the burden who saved his life
long ago.
I took a deep breath and repeated calmly, “I’m not being childish. The breakup is final. Don’t contact me
again. Go be with your… fated mate.”
Caden snapped. He hurled the jewelry box to the floor, anger blazing in his eyes. “Adeline, what the hell is your damn problem?!”
Before he could say more, he was interrupted.
Dad stepped in front of me, shielding me, his brow slightly furrowed. “Watch your language, Caden.

“You’re soaked. You should head home andtake ashower, and get some rest. It’s late, we won’t keep you for
dinner.”
Mom smiled gently and handed him a slice of cake. “Adeline’s already made her wish. She doesn’t need the gift, but here, take this cake home.”
“Take care and stay safe. You know, young men need to be careful out there too.”
Caden just stood there, stunned. I knew why he was shocked.
Every other time he’d come over, my parents had welcomed him warmly.
Why was today so different?
He was visibly confused, speechless, clearly unable to understand my parents‘ sudden change in attitude.
Finally, he could only stand there in silence and watch as the door clicked shut in his face. He had been thoroughly dismissed.
I didn’t have much of an appetite. I picked at my cake for a few bites before going back to my bedroom to
rest.
My mom was worried. She sat on the edge of my bed and asked, “Adeline, are you absolutely sure about
this?”
