The Luna Queen's Rebirth (Ellie and Dominic) novel Chapter 142

Ellie POV

The courthouse looms infront of us, the stone cold, tall steps and doors too heavy for a place that’s supposed to be about justice.

Considering I’m in a damn wheel chair.

And there’s no ramp.

Sarah standing behind me, staring up the steps like they are impossible, hands on her hips. “I can’t believe there is no rap? Does our government hate the disabled?”

“Yes,” I sigh, pushing out of the chair, leaning heavily on railing. “just get the chair pleae.”

“Ellie,” she says tight, folding up my chair. “Maybe we should come back-”

“My moms in there,” I say, pressing on through the pain. “I need to make sure she is okay.”

“Okay,” she says, voice tight following. “Slow. We go slow.”

“I don’t have time for slow,” I mutter, even as my vision swims and my stomach churns like it’s trying to crawl out of my throat.

At the top, she puts my chair down and I huff into it as she huals me in.

We burst through the courthouse doors, the echo of our entrance turning heads. I scan the ornate room of wood and god room wildly, searching for a face I know, a desk, a sign, anything.

We roll up to a clerk.

“I’m here to see my mother,” I say to the first uniform I spot. “Now.”

The officer barely looks at me before narrowing his eyes. “You’ll need to wait your turn. Fill out a few forms”

“She’s been here for days,” I say. My hands clench in my lap. “You don’t understand. I’m all she has, I need to see her.”

He finally looks down at me then, eyes flicking to the wheelchair, to my pale face, to the way I’m gripping the armrest like it’s the only thing keeping me upright.

“Visitation is restricted on the case,” he says. “Family only. And not without approval.”

“I am family,” I hiss. “She’s my mother.”

“Doesn’t matter,” he replies flatly. “Paperwork. You’ll have to fill out, process for three days and-”

“I will throw up on your shoes,” I interrupt, leaning forward as nausea rolls hard through me. “And then pass out. Possibly bleed. And then you’ll have a much bigger problem than paperwork! Let me see my damn mother!”

Sarah slams her hands on the counter. “She’s sick!” she shouts. “She can only leave the hospital for three hours or so. Are you seriously going to stand there and block her?”
