Chapter 146
Dominic POV
I don’t move from my spot outside the office.
The walls in this house were built thick for privacy, sure, but not thick enough to stop a man from hearing his father casually ruin someone’s life.
I knew he was going to pull some shit.
My father never did anything without benefit, you were never asking for a favor from my father, only a deal
that favor him.
Marriage.
He never outright said it, but Ellie is smart enough to get it. My hands curl at my sides, nails biting into my palms hard enough to ground me.
That ass. He could help her.
That’s the part that makes my blood boil.
He absolutely could intervene, pull strings, make calls, bury evidence under a mountain of Alpha authority. He’s done worse for less. But he won’t. Because this locks Ellie neatly into place.
I stare at the door like I might put my fist through it.
From inside, Ellie asks again if he is sure there is nothing he can do.
Her voice is quieter this time. Like she already knows the answer and is asking anyway, because hope is a stupid thing.
“Is there really no other way?”
My father doesn’t hesitate.
“Appologizes child, but I am tied to the world as you are. Thought, I must say, you are very brave to try and save you’re mother’s fate. I wish…I could have gotten to know her more.”
Just like that.
Final.
The door opens a second later.
Ellie steps out, and I swear the temperature in the hallway drops ten degrees.
r
She’s furious, eyes blazing, jaw tight, shoulders squared as he pushes past me. She’s limping, trying to hide
I’m going after her quick, reaching for her arm.
