Chapter 192

Ellie’s POV

I woke the next morning with a headache that could rival the pain of a lobotomy.

The sun had barely risen when my eyes cracked open. For a moment, in those sweet, blissfully oblivious moments between sleep and wakefulness, I didn’t remember what had happened yesterday.

It took about two seconds before it all came rushing back.

The vows. The knife. The contract.

All of it.

I groaned softly, grabbing my spare pillow and pressing it against my face as if it could block out the world. For a moment, I almost considered leaving it there until I ran out of air, but I didn’t.

One thing was for certain: my resolve had hardened overnight. I had spent most of the night laying awake, staring at the ceiling and thinking everything over, and now my plan had crystallized.

I couldn’t stay. Even if my feelings for Dominic were still confusing, that was one thing that was for certain. I needed to find a way out of this situation before history repeated itself, because I was not so sure that the Moon Goddess would give me a third chance if it did.

The thing was, Dominic had made certain that I couldn’t be the one to initiate divorce in that contract. Which meant that I would have to find a way to make him do it.

Luckily, I knew all of the little things that pissed Dominic off. It was one thing I had gotten pretty good at, so I was going to use it to my advantage. By the end of the week at most, he would get so fed up with me, so embarrassed and frustrated, that he’d snap and get it over with.

At least, that was what I hoped.

With that in mind, I quickly showered, dressed, and brushed my teeth, then headed downstairs for some coffee. The house was quiet at this hour, and I hoped to sneak out before anyone woke.

Unfortunately, Marcus was in the kitchen when I arrived. He turned, spotting me before could slip away.

“Luna,” he said. The word came out tight, like he wasn’t sure if he should call me that.

We stood there for a few seconds, looking at each other. I could tell the Beta didn’t trust me now after what happened yesterday. Unsurprising, because in my past life, he basically thought I was the devil incarnate.

“Morning,” I finally replied. I quickly poured some coffee into a thermos, planning to drink it on the way to the academy, and turned around.

“Wait,” Marcus called out to me before I’d made it two steps to the door. “Luna, I thought you should know that a meeting has been scheduled concerning the upcoming festival-”
