Chapter 225
Ellie’s POV
“What do you think?” Sarah held up the flags she had just spent the last hour working on. One was bright red with yellow lines cutting back and forth through it, and the other was white and black checkered.
I tapped my chin, studying the flags, then nodded. “Those are perfect. We’ll make the vests with the same colors. Thank you.”
My friend grinned and set the flags into the box labeled “Capture the Flag”, then picked up the to-do list and ticked that off. Looking at me through her lashes, she said, “I can’t believe Dominic tried to make Vivian your assistant.”
“Technically,” I said, lowering my voice so as not to be overheard, she still is.” Dominic wasn’t aware of our little competition, or so I assumed. I certainly wasn’t going to be the one to make him find out.
Sarah rolled her eyes. “Well, you’re doing just fine on your own, clearly.”
“Thanks to you,” I laughed.
She smiled and stood, stretching. “Well, speaking of which, I need to dash. Want me to pick up those cake samples from the bakery while I’m out?”
“That’s okay. I’ll get them later. Thank you, Sarah. You’ve been a huge help today.”
“I know.” My friend, still smiling, ruffled my hair-messing up my braid, much to my chagrin and left after that. I stayed there for a while longer with my tongue stuck out in concentration as I carefully arranged the letters on the sign I was making.
Finally, after what could have been five minutes or an hour, I sat back in my chair and stretched, making my spine crack audibly. Must have been an hour. I picked up my sign and studied it, then nodded to myself and added it to the box before ticking “Make Sign” off the list.
With two days left until the festival, I still had a lot left to do. But everything was coming along perfectly so far; I had the menu for the feast figured out with all of the ingredients ordered. The games-capture the flag for the adults, pin the tail on the wolf for the kids, and kickball for everyone-were ready to go. Over a dozen vendors from the pack had been met with, all confirming their participation, with the locations for their booths already rented out and waiting for them with yellow tape.
