Ellie’s POV

“That’s it,” I finished. The words had all come out in a rush, and I felt breathless and lightheaded. “I woke up in my eighteen-year-old bedroom, and my mom was still alive, and my wolf said the Moon Goddess gave us another chance. And now here I am.’

Lucas didn’t say anything for a long time after I had finished telling my story.

He was staring straight ahead through the windshield, both hands resting on his knees, just… processing. He looked like he’d short circuited. I couldn’t blame him. I could hardly breathe myself, and my chest was heaving, and at some point I must have cried because my face was wet and my lips were salty.

Finally, he said in a rough voice, “Okay.”

“Okay?” I repeated.

“Just, uh… Give me a second.”

Before I could answer, he got out of the car and shut the door behind him. I watched, biting my nails, as he walked over to the fence at the end of the overlook. He leaned on it heavily, arms outstretched, head hanging, and didn’t move for a long time..

He eventually returned. Pale, but not completely horrified. He calmly got back into the car and looked at me.

“You died,” he said.

“Yes.”

“And then you woke up. Years earlier. In your own body, but younger.”

“Yes.”

“And you’ve been living this whole time knowing what’s to come before it even happens, because you’ve lived it all before.”

“Not all of it,” I corrected him. “Some things have changed. The timeline is different in some places. I’m not sure if that’s from my own doing or the universe. But for the most part, yes, things are roughly the

same.”

Lucas looked back out the windshield. Another long pause ensued. I watched his side profile, but in the dim light, I couldn’t make out much of what he was thinking.

“The assassin.” He glanced at me sideways. “That was why you recognized him.”

I nodded.

He exhaled through his nose. “How long have you been carrying this around by yourself?”

“Since I woke up,” I said honestly.
